Streep at Golden Globes: “all of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it. Hollywood. Foreigners. And the press"

VILLIFIED

VILLIFIED

VILLIFIED

VILLIFIED

VILLIFIED

VILLIFIED

Nothing could more beautifully, and articulately demonstrate the separation not merely from America, but from Americans who must think, and worry, and plan, and scheme, and hustle, and wish every day about tomorrow.
Nothing could more beautifully, and articulately demonstrate the bigotry these people, graced by God with the talent to make us laugh, cry, and wish we could dance like that, or wear underwear like that, and who have little if any other USE in this society, and misplace their VALUE… the BIGOTRY these people demonstrate against the choices others are compelled to make, not out of racism, or xenophobia, or envy, or desire for some fascism, but to get out from under the physical manifestations of repeated REAL VILIFICATION, and wish each day for a CHANCE for careers which challenge, hope for their children so that they can live as an extended family nearby, and see society EVENED by a sharing of growth, NOT A DIVISION OF EVER SCARCER RESOURCES mandated by people LIKE YOU MS. STREEP.

VILIFICATION? I got your VILIFICATION RIGHT HERE.

This is what it looks like when you get vilified over years.

Don't get me going RT.

I went to UVA, back when it was UVA

I have always been ambivalent about that war, and what it meant to both sides.

But in the end, just like if there had been no 9/11 there would have been no Iraq, if there had been no slavery would there have been a Shiloh, Antietam?

Ah shit, and then I think of Alexander telling Lee a 'chicken couldn't live on that field' or Lee dividing his army twice the day before Chancellorsville, or Jackson, John Hood (until he had command), how RIGHT Longstreet was time after time, and then it all comes back to effin slavery AGAIN, and I have to sigh

Would the Jews have venerated Ramses and his army?
No, but Abu Simbel still stands.

And maybe that's the answer. The past belongs to the past.

If there had been no slavery and the South had rebelled over tariffs then Lee and his Lieutenants would remain undisputed american heroes today.

But Jeff Davis is an asshole forever. That's just who he is

Thanks for the kudos, folks

We watched the globes and LONG before Streep, we asked aloud how much the total worth of the gowns being worn by the (soon to be named) VILIFIED were worth.

The minute I heard Streep, I thought if there was ever a moment when a picture was a 1000 words....

BTW, if all were thrown out, as Streep fantasized, besides football and UFC (which I have never watched) WE'D STILL HAVE CAPRA, FORD, DEMILLE, WYLER, FLEMING, KAZAN, MANKIWEWICZ, ROBBINS, WISE, FOSSE, ALLEN, COPPOLA, CIMONO, REDFORD, BEATTY, ETC AND A LOT OF OTHER 'FOREIGNERS' who became AMERICANS.

just like my mother and all of my grandparents.

Let a deplorable speak:

The correct word which Streep was searching for is "over-rated". Hollywood is over-rated. Unfortunately, the current POTUS pandered to Hollywood celebrities, rappers, LGBT, etc. He never sought out some of the great humanitarian lights, because he is not one either.

We don't despise these people, we just don't care. They are not the center of the universe.

Great post!
