Mr. Redfield, the party’s brand is to sound conservative, patronize TEA, and achieve NOTHING

They still don’t get it, and that means they NEVER WILL
Politico:
CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Republican National Committeeman delivered a call-to-arms aimed at Donald Trump during a closed-door GOP meeting on Thursday, urging his colleagues to take a forceful stand against those who he said were destroying the party’s brand.
At a breakfast at the RNC’s winter meeting, Holland Redfield, an RNC committeeman who represents the minority-rich Virgin Islands, rose to address party chairman Reince Priebus. In the five-minute impromptu speech, a video recording of which Redfield provided to POLITICO, Redfield did not explicitly mention Trump’s name. But he made clear that angry voices in the party posed a grave threat to the GOP’s future, and expressed alarm at what he described as crushing pressure to play nice.

“You can argue with me, but we’re almost terrorized as members of our party. ‘Shut up. Toe the line, embrace each other, and let’s go forward.’ I understand that. But there is a limit to loyalty. I am loyal to this party by speaking out on these very issues,” he said at the private breakfast meeting.
At one point, Redfield essentially argued that those in the room have been held hostage by Trump’s threat to run as a third-party candidate if the party hierarchy treats him unfairly.
“As a party we owe it to ourselves to speak up, and not let the tail wag the dog, and not let someone say, all of a sudden, ‘If you don’t play my game, then I’m running as an independent.”

The reason Trump could "hold hostage" the Republican Party is because the voters are behind him.

And THAT means, "Republicans" feel held hostage by their own party.

Too bad for them they don't run it anymore.

Fuck the GOP.

Speaking of the Party's brand, read Why I Will Never Vote for Donald Trump by Peter Wehner. This essay appeared in the NYT yesterday morning.

Please note the photo used. What message(s) does that photo send? Hmmmm?

Wehner is aperfect example of someone who doesn't get it.
He opposes Trump for the main reason that HE, Wehner is conservative.
He also lists a personality set which certainly fits the current president.

Trmup is killing it because he has convinced an AWFUL lot of Americans he will TACKLE what they care about MOST (without L,P,C,D, or R labels), and he almost always wins.

Trump is saying, "HERE IS WHAT I AM GOING TO DO, AND I WIN, DO YOU WANT TO WIN?"

And the people. rightly or wrongly are going, 'That sounds good to me'

Everyone has told us since the 90's 'you can't build a wall for reasons A-M' and Trumpp is saying, 'BULLSHIT, I'm going to get wall built by having the offenders pay for it.'

I don't know if Trump is the right guy, or if he can deliver, but I know HE IS GOING TO EXERT HIMSELF 100% and fire a lot of people in the way. Then fire some more.

People like Wehner cannot hold their nose because they want Barry Goldwater melded with Reagan melded with Milton Friedman.

If Trump is eleceted and then succeeds in the TWO AREAS he cares about (Border/Terrorism and Trade/Economy) the entire apple cart of the Republican Party is not upset, it is gone

Wehner is establishment GOP. He doesn't believe that it is possible for the GOP to be gone. He believes that Party is eternal. It is not.

Right now, I'm reading the book Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence. The author makes the point that those who are members of think tanks often miss important points because these think tankers will not even look at any evidence which doesn't confirm their cognitive biases. Peter Wehner is ensconced in a think tank -- as are many who are the voices of the establishment GOP.

I don't think Wehner, or anyone in the establishment GOP wants Goldwater mixed with Friedman mixed with Reagan.

They want GHWB mixed with GHB mixed with John McCain, mixed with Jeb Bush.

And Trump is not that.
