CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED --- Massive Explosion in Tianjin, China - Cause Unknown - Size is Approximately 21 Tons of TNT - Hazardous Chemicals?

"By today's standards the two bombs dropped on a Japan were small -- equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT in the case of the Hiroshima bomb and 20,000 tons in the case of the Nagasaki bomb." Nuclear energy, often mistakenly called atomic energy, is the most powerful kind of energy known.

I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION.

I WANT TO MAKE THAT CLEAR.

HOWEVER, THE POWER OF THE BLAST IS LARGER THAN BOTH ATOM BOMBS USED ON HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI.

FOX NEWS SAYS, 7 DEAD, 300 HOSPITALIZED

There is, as the BBC's clip of a report from China says, "confusion" as to the cause.

This occurred in Tianjin, a port city to the southeast of Beijing.

This is a city of approximately 15 million people.

The images of the neighboring areas are dark but imply a lot of high rise dwellings surround the area. Pray for all the families who are dealing with the aftermath of missing loved ones, injury, death and homelessness.

I believe your perspective on size is off. You (reports) say this was 21 tons of TNT. Nagasaki was 20,000 tons of TNT (1,000 times greater). So not even close.

But still more than bad enough.

Xinhuanet report

TIANJIN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two firefighters were "out of contact" and another four injured as of 3:00 a.m. Thursday after an explosion ripped through a warehouse in north China's Tianjin City, according to police authority.

According to the Sina Weibo post of the firefighting bureau under the Ministry of Public Security, The Tianjin firebrigade sent 12 teams after receiving fire report from Ruihai warehouse at the Binhai New Area at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, which stores dangerous and chemical goods. An explosion occurred at the site at 11:30 p.m. The brigade then sent another nine teams and 35 fire engines as reinforecement.

The shockwaves were felt kilometers away, with some residents claiming their window glass and fish tanks shattered. People in neighborhoods nearby said flames lit up the sky and the blasts with big bang sent smoke and dust dozens of meters into the sky.

Lu Yun, head of the nearby Taida Hospital, said they have received more than 50 wounded people, and more are coming. The injuries were mainly from broken glass or stones. Some of the injuries are serious.
The rescue operation is still going on.

Tianjin, China, Blast Affects Port Handling Coal, Metal Ore, Oil via Bloomberg

"The port, located about 160 kilometers southeast of Beijing in Tianjin municipality, has a container terminal and is near China National Offshore Oil Corp.’s Tianjin FLNG, China’s first floating liquefied natural-gas terminal. The LNG plant has a capacity of 1.059 trillion cubic feet a year, according to Bloomberg data."..."PetroChina Co.’s 359,000 barrel-a-day Dagang refinery, the country’s fifth largest, is in the southern part of Tianjin municipality, according to Bloomberg data. Calls to the company weren’t immediately returned"

AFP/Yahoo: 17 dead, 400 hurt as huge blasts hits China's Tianjin
"An AFP reporter at the scene saw shattered glass up to three kilometres (two miles) from the blast site, after a shipment of explosives detonated in an industrial zone raining debris on the city.
Plumes of smoke still billowed over buildings six hours after the explosion, which occurred around 11:30 pm (1530 GMT) local time.
"The fireball was huge, maybe as much as 100 metres tall," said 27-year-old Huang Shiting, whose house is close to the port area of the city where the explosion took place." . . ."Much of the area surrounding the explosion is made up of construction sites for residential and office buildings. Worker dormitories, built of flimsy sheets of thin metal, were torn apart by the blast."

UPI adds:
"China's Xinhua news agency reported the explosion was caused by flammables and explosives at a container terminal. The agency said the blast set off a number of other explosions at buildings nearby.
The explosion was centered at a warehouse for a logistics company called Tianjin Dongjiang Port Rui Hai International Logistics, CNN reported.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said nearby tower blocks were without power, the BBC reported.
The emerging business district includes a new airport completed in 2012 and is home to 219 Fortune 500 companies, according to China Daily."

"The explosion was in the warehouse of a private company named as Ruihai logistics. A company website says it was established in 2011, has a license for handling hazardous materials and handles around 1 million tonnes of cargo a year.

The government has not yet commented on what caused the blast, but if it is a safety lapse in the handling of dangerous shipments, it would be the latest in a long line of grim accidents.

Poor safety standards and widespread corruption contribute to hundreds of deaths in China’s poorly regulated private mines each year, and in other industrial accidents. An explosion at a fireworks warehouse in July killed 15 people, and last year dozens died in a blast at a car parts factory in Shanghai."

Hope this accident and the others are not man-made disasters. Because if they are, somebody is using a country with well known lack of security to practice activities they can perfect and then also implement in countries where failure is not am option.

We know, we have been told, that there are thousands of sleeper cells in the US. Would China be any more difficult to infiltrate? These companies may have hired terrorists who study the scene, take pictures of trucks, buildings, etc. and then they can execute a thoroughly planned terrorist attack.

May be wrong, but how is it possible to have that many terrible accidents in such a short time?

How open would be China to open up about such a level of terrorism? Could it be they know better but don´t want to do something that would spook them? Wishful thinking?
