And we’re OFF, not 1938, IT’S 1914? The Chinese PLA Navy tries to halt US warship

They are OFFICIALLY trying to provoke an incident, WHY?

Chinese Naval Vessel Tries to Force U.S. Warship to Stop in International Waters

A Chinese naval vessel tried to force a U.S. guided missile warship to stop in international waters recently, causing a tense military standoff in the latest case of Chinese maritime harassment, according to defense officials.
The guided missile cruiser USSCowpens, which recently took part in disaster relief operations in the Philippines, was confronted by Chinese warships in the South China Sea near Beijing’s new aircraft carrier Liaoning, according to officials familiar with the incident.
“On December 5th, while lawfully operating in international waters in the South China Sea, USS Cowpens and a PLA Navy vessel had an encounter that required maneuvering to avoid a collision,” a Navy official said.
“This incident underscores the need to ensure the highest standards of professional seamanship, including communications between vessels, to mitigate the risk of an unintended incident or mishap.”
A State Department official said the U.S. government issued protests to China in both Washington and Beijing in both diplomatic and military channels.
The ship attempting to stop the Cowpens was tank landing ship
So next time suppose we or more likely THEY, attempt to put a shot across the bow?
Certainly these are not stupid people and they recognize that with fleets operating in close proximity, provocative actions create the opportunity for honest mistakes, equipment failures, and stupidities in which the result might be …. poor.
Why, they must be confident that in order to avoid such a trial, other parties might be more likely to AVOID SITUATIONS which can lead to conflict or error.
Right?

Yes Epa, it wouldn't make any sense unless they want to check how far the 'Leading from behind the Golf course' will retreat,
God he might even send his Lawyer to Bejing

A few months ago the Chinese put their military in full state of readiness. It was clear they were expecting something. I thought it was related to the Iran affair. Maybe not.

It's clear they are getting antsy. Probably they don't want to wait to find out who will be the new big kid in the block. I'm sure they feel ready to take that role, although Mr. Putin must not be too pleased.
