From Weasel Zippers:

End birthright citizenship…

Beijing – Wang Rong, who is six-months pregnant, is about to leave Beijing for California so she can give birth to her baby in the United States and give the child its first gift – US citizenship.

The special delivery will cost Wang and her husband, both white-collar workers in the capital, 100,000 yuan ($15,000), but they say it is money well spent.

Sexy Arab Ads

From Planck's Constant:

I often write that Muslims live rather boring lives, with no beer, boobs, or barbecues. Add the prohibition against gambling and one can understand why there are no such things as Muslim cruises.

So it pleases me to see some folks in Muslim countries engaging in sexy advertising. City Mall in Beirut had this provocative ad on the front page of a Lebanese newspaper a while back. The idea was to allay shoppers' fears about bombs; here we see a great looking babe making sure that the guy with the bulge in his pants is not carrying a stick of dynamite.

Perhaps because this section of Beirut is heavily Christian they can get away with such un-Islamic advertising.

Obama Dept. Of Justice: No More Voting Rights Cases Against Black Defendants

Megyn Kelly interviews former Deparment of Justice Attorney, J. Christian Adams, on Fox News:

KELLY: Do you believe that the DOJ has a policy now of not pursuing cases if the defendant is black and the victim is white?

ADAM: Well, particularly in voting. In voting that will be the case over the next few years, there’s no doubt about it.

KELLY: There isn’t?

ADAM: None, I mean, instructions were, if you had all the attorneys that worked on this case I am quite sure that they would say the exact same thing. And that other attorneys gave instructions that the voting section would not be pursuing these sorts of cases.

KELLY: Who specifically has issued that mandate?

ADAMS: Well, you know, there’s some things I’m not going to reveal as far as who they are. They know who they are. They’ve said that if somebody wants to bring these kind of cases that’s not going to be done out of the civil rights division. If a U.S. attorney wants to do it, that’s up to them, but it’s not going to happen out of the civil rights division.

KELLY: Let me ask you this. Is it somebody or is it several people in positions of power?

ADAMS: Yeah, it’s a political appointee. It’s a political appointee.

KELLY: You have said that after the dismissal of the New Black Panther’s case that a mandate was issued that no more of these cases brought against black defendants would be brought. Is that the case?

ADAMS: That’s what I just said.

Former Robert Kennedy Campaign Manager And Civil Right Attorney, Bartle Bull Says,

"I Do Know the President of the United States, Mr. Obama, has violated his Oath of Office, and that is to enforce the laws of the United States, because he is not enforcing the Voting Rights Act."

Clinton Says Steel Vise Crushing Human Rights Efforts

From the Associated Press:

KRAKOW, Poland – Intolerant governments across the globe are "slowly crushing" activist and advocacy groups that play an essential role in the development of democracy, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday.

She cited a broad range of countries where "the walls are closing in" on civic organizations such as unions, religious groups, rights advocates and other nongovernmental organizations that press for social change and shine a light on governments' shortcomings.

Among those she named were Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Venezuela, China and Russia.

"Some of the countries engaging in these behaviors still claim to be democracies," Clinton said at an international conference on the promotion of democracy and human rights. "Democracies don't fear their own people. They recognize that citizens must be free to come together, to advocate and agitate."

Before an audience of several hundred senior government officials, Clinton recalled Winston Churchill's warning 60 years ago at Fulton, Mo., that an iron curtain was descending across Europe. She noted that with the collapse of the Soviet Union, that curtain no longer remains.

"But we must be wary of the steel vise in which governments around the world are slowly crushing civil society and the human spirit," she said. Social activists, Clinton said, are being harassed, censored, cut off from funding, arrested, prosecuted or killed.

SHOCKING: Kagan's Princeton Thesis Cited German Socialist Who Endorsed Nazis

Elena Kagan's senior thesis at Princeton University, recounting the history of socialist politics in New York City, cited the theories of an influential German Marxist who notoriously switched allegiances to Nazism after Adolf Hitler attained power.

Werner Sombart was widely recognized as an academic proponent of Marxism and was once praised by Karl Marx's colleague Friedrich Engels as the only German professor who understood Marx's Das Kapital. During World War I, however, Sombart endorsed Germany's "heroic" war against the "capitalist spirit" represented by England. In 1934, Sombart published Deutscher Sozialismus, which advocated the "total ordering of life" as an expression of the German Volksgeist, or "national spirit."

In the introduction to her 1981 thesis, Kagan addresses a question famously asked by Sombart: Warum gibt es in den Vereinigten Staaten keinen Sozialismus? -- "Why is there no socialism in the United States?"
"The Socialist Party of the United States could not lay claim to the kind of pure proletarianism that Sombart considered essential to any socialist movement; indeed, most of the party’s members did not even consider this a worthy goal," Kagan wrote on Page 3 of the thesis. "But the American socialists ‘failure’ to build a movement that even resembled Sombart's idealized notion of a class-conscious party . . . did not render their party any less significant. Nor did such a failure render their party any less successful. In the first two decades of the twentieth century the American socialist movement, whose very existence Sombart refused to consider, grew if not by leaps and bounds at least by inches."

In the final pages of her thesis -- To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900-1933 -- Kagan returns to Sombart's theories, writing: "Why, in particular, did the socialist movement never become an alternative to the nation’s established parties? In answering this question, historians have often called attention to various characteristics of American society that have militated against widespread acceptance of radical movements. These societal traits -- an ethnically divided worked class, a relatively fluid class structure, an economy which allowed at least some workers to enjoy what Sombart termed ‘reefs of roast beef and apple pie,' -- prevented the early twentieth century socialists from attracting an immediate mass following. Such conditions did not, however, completely checkmate American socialism."

Even before he embraced National Socialism, Sombart's socialist theories reflected an anti-Semitic tendency that identified Jews with capitalism, a theme explored in his 1911 book, Die Juden und das Wirtschaftsleben ("The Jews and Economics," which was published in a 1913 English translation titled, The Jews and Modern Capitalism). In his 1915 book Handler und Helden ("Merchants and Heroes"), Sombart praised the "heroic" German character, contrasting them with "Trading Peoples," especially Jews, whose "commercial" habits Sombart depicted as prevailing among the English.

The influence of Sombart, who died in 1942 at age 78, was scornfully cited in Friedrich Hayek's famous 1944 book The Road to Serfdom. In Chapter 12 of that book -- "The Socialist Roots of Nazism" -- Hayek said that Sombart "had done as much as any man to spread socialist ideas and anticapitalist resentment of varying shades throughout Germany."

My Favorite President Obama Rhetorical Accomplishment

My favorite President Obama rhetorical accomplishment was that time he ended The Iraq War rhetorically. Now sure I’ll admit it was also cool when he: closed Guantanamo Bay rhetorically, enacted free universal health-care with no rationing or added costs rhetorically, rhetorically didn’t raise taxes on anyone who makes under $250k, rhetorically killed or captured Osama bin Laden, just to name a few of this great man’s many, many rhetorical achievements. But ending The Iraq War rhetorically? That was his rhetorical masterpiece. His piece de resistance, if you will.

Historians will chronicle that fateful day some 18 months ago when President Obama rhetorically promised that all US troops would be out of Iraq within 16 months. It was only due to this tangibly rhetorical achievement that the anti-Iraq War faction, who had long tirelessly campaigned against that war they objectively hated so much for reasons completely independent of politics and unlinked to any desire just to see (R)s replaced by (D)s, were finally objectively justified in laying down their signs and giant puppets and switching to immediately focusing on the universal, free, non-rationed health care (that we all now rhetorically have) instead. After all, since that sunny day, The Iraq War – as we know – has been rhetorically over.

Seriously: what other President could have achieved this? Sure, Bush could have rhetorically stated at any point in his Presidency that all troops will be out of Iraq within N months. But nobody would have believed him or liked him for saying it. That’s the difference you see. People believe President Obama and they like it when he rhetorically does all these things. And ultimately, it’s the wisdom of people like that who make our democracy what it is today – which, incidentally, is also why I’m so rhetorically free from cynicism and misanthropy.

The Question is Who @ the NRA is on Tape Schtupping an 8 year old boy?

Heston at a rally for the National Rifle Assoc...

Image via Wikipedia

From REDSTATE comes a description of why Heston is SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE:

NRA Now Leans Toward Endorsing Harry Reid

Multiple sources tell me the National Rifle Association is planning to endorse liberal Harry Reid against pro-gun champion Sharron Angle.

Two weeks ago, I told you about the carveout the NRA received in exchange for their support for the DISCLOSE ACT deal.

Then this week, RedState broke the story of the "gag order" the NRA issued to members of its Board on the Kagan nomination.

Now, I'm getting credible reports that the NRA is leaning toward endorsing Harry Reid, even though the NRA is finally saying it will score a vote on Kagan -- something that was not a sure thing.

Why would they do this? Why would they go out of their way to protect a Senator who has demonstrated a repeated hostility to the Second Amendment in his votes and his leadership?

Well, I thought perhaps the NRA carveout in the DISCLOSE Act might be the answer. But, there is more. It turns out, Reid secured a $61 million earmark for a gun range in Clark County, Nevada.

NRA members were recently treated to a three-page spread in the American Rifleman about a visit to Nevada by Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox to "thank" Reid for the earmark. The article even includes a cliché picture of Reid cutting a ribbon with a gigantic pair of scissors. (Every good porker has his own giant pair of gold earmark scissors.) More here.

Here is a video of the event from Reid's youtube site.

At 3:25, you can hear LaPierre touting Reid's record on guns saying, "I also want to thank you, Senator, for your support every day for the Second Amendment and for the rights of American gun owners. "

The American Rifleman article also commends Reid's Second Amendment record noting, "His dedication to this project is just one of the ways Sen. Reid has demonstrated his support for gun owners and the Second Amendment."

Well, that's all very nice. What politician representing a pro-gun red state wouldn't want Wayne LaPierre to come out for a personal photo op at their earmark ribbon cutting.

But, here is the problem. Reid has not supported the Second Amendment "every day." Or ever.

Reid has a lifetime rating of "F" from Gun Owners of America (who Ron Paul once called "the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington"). GOA is actively supporting the 100% pro-gun Republican nominee, Sharron Angle, in her campaign to unseat Harry Reid.

But if you don't believe GOA, see for yourself below the fold. Then call (800) 392-VOTE (8683) before it is too late and make the NRA knows they'd be betraying second amendment voters by endorsing Harry Reid.

Below are just a few of the votes that demonstrate Reid's longstanding hostility to guns and the Second Amendment. Not included in this list is the long list of consistent and active support for anti-gun nominees to the Federal Judiciary and to high level cabinet posts. The reason I did not include anti-gun nominees is because he supported every last one of them.

Ever wonder why politics makes the cynical apathetic? This, I imagine would be either the death knell of the NRA or it's baord. And if the NRA goes away DEPEND on an even HARDER Tea Party based coalition defending the 2nd amendment.

Remember the prediction .. we are heading for oscillations between the Gracchi and Sulla, followed by massive civil unrest until a new generation yearns for order and peace.

Gertz: Obama swaps Israel for Al Saud's help in escaping from Afghanistan

King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. (2002 photo)

Obama promises king Israel will withdraw from West Bank, Jerusalem, bows again

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama was said to have pledged to Saudi Arabia that the United States would force Israel to withdraw from eastern Jerusalem and the entire West Bank by 2012.

Diplomatic sources said Obama relayed a pledge to Saudi King Abdullah that he would take any measure to ensure an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and Jerusalem over the next 18 months. They said Obama relayed the pledge to Abdullah during the president's trip to Riyad in June 2009, about four months after he assumed office, in exchange for Abdullah's help to arrange for the end of the Taliban war in Afghanistan.

"Obama believes the Saudis are the most important element in his strategy to withdraw from Afghanistan," a diplomatic source familiar with the Obama-Abdullah talks, said. "Abdullah said he was ready to talk to Taliban, but asked for a clear and definitive promise to deliver Israel."

On June 29, Abdullah met Obama in the White House, the third session over the last 18 months. Officials said the two leaders focused on Gulf security and the Middle East peace process.

"This is a very important visit [by Abdullah]," U.S. ambassador to Riyad, James Smith, said.

The sources said Abdullah has demanded U.S. guarantees that Israel would withdraw from the West Bank and most of Jerusalem by 2012. They said the Saudi king also expressed opposition to U.S. arms sales to Israel and Washington's boycott of the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip.

Obama's approach to the Saudis was formulated soon after he entered the White House in late January 2009. In May 2009, Obama sent an envoy, Richard Holbrooke, to Riyad to urge the kingdom to support efforts to facilitate a NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The sources said Abdullah asserted that he wielded significant influence over the Saudi-financed Taliban, the main rebel force in Afghanistan. But the king told Holbrooke, Obama's envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, that he first wanted Washington to adopt and implement the Saudi plan for an Arab-Israeli settlement.

"Holbrooke agreed with everything Abdullah asked," a source who monitored the meeting recalled. "He [Holbrook] kept saying 'No problem,' even to the most outrageous demands. At that point, the king said, 'I want to hear this from your boss.'"

Is anyone QUESTIONING the king about his influence over the Taliban on and preceding September 11, 2001?

Michael Steele Must Resign as Chairman of the Republican Party

And as soon as possible.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is once again caught in the crosshairs, this time over comments he made regarding the war in Afghanistan in which he calls it "a war of Obama's choosing."

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele (Photo by Mark Wilson/Getty Images

He adds: "This is not something the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in."

The comments, at a fund-raiser in Connecticut, were captured on video andposted on YouTube Thursday. Steele also suggests that the war itself is unwinnable, stating that President Barack Obamadoesn't understand the history of the region.

"Everyone who has tried, over 1,000 years of history, has failed and there are reasons for that. There are other ways you could engage in Afghanistan," he said.

Pure stupid statement.
Somewhat flawed historical conclusion

He has completely lost my respect.

FOX: Afshad Azad Not Attempted "Honor Killing" - Just "Family Feud"

FOX is what percentage owned by Muslims? Because the spin has started on the attempted ISLAM-APPROVED HONOR KILLING of Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad. It's got nothing to do with religion, ya see, it's all about what's "taboo" in "traditional", "conservative" Muslim AND Hindu families, and the Azad men have "issues" about "loss of power". All true, of course, but conveniently leaving out the small "issue" of the tolerance of "honor killing" in Islamic Sharia law.

'Harry Potter' Star in Family Feud Over Hindu Beau
By Jo Piazza
Published July 02, 2010

The father and brother of a British actress who starred in the more recent "Harry Potter" movies have been charged with threatening to kill the 22-year old actress, apparently in disapproval of her boyfriend.

The actress, Afshan Azad, played Harry’s classmate Padma Patil in the popular series. Her father, Abdul Azad, 54, and her brother, Ashraf Azad, are accused of threatening her in May during a fight at her Manchester, England, home. The brother is also accused of assaulting her.

Details of the alleged threats and assault weren't immediately clear, but prosecutors have said the Muslim men did not approve of her relationship with her Hindu boyfriend.

The case has been adjourned until July 12, and both men were granted bail on condition that they do not contact Azad at her home.

The potential role of religion in the case has raised questions about the men's motivation.

“In traditional [Muslim] societies the family comes before the individual, and the woman represents the honor and purity of the family, so for a woman in the family to engage in a relationship that is taboo can be viewed as a violation of the family,” said Haroon Moghul the Executive Director of the Maydan Institute, a consulting firm that seeks to raise awareness of Muslims.

“Also in more conservative circles of Hindu or Muslim families, people don’t date before they are married, and it can be a lot worse for the girl and she is the one who is blamed and punished by the father, uncle or elder brother.”

Such cases can lead to what some people term “honor killings," though the term often is denounced in religious communities as a misnomer.

“It is poorly named since there is no honor in killing a woman. What these crimes are about is controlling a woman and it is not something unique to just Muslim society,” Hussein Rashid, a visiting instructor at Hofstra University’s Department of Religion, told Fox411.com. “I can’t put words in these men’s mouths, but it sounds like they had real issues with the success of a woman in their household and that this is about a loss of power.”

Afshan Azad first appeared in the Potter franchise in "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire." She will also appear in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the final film in the saga.

Warner Brothers, the studio that released the Harry Potter films, did not respond to calls for comment.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to hear from Rowling, either. It will be interesting to see how this taqiyya goes down with the Potter fans.

Unemployment rate down

because people quit looking for work.

Stupid fucking numbers games

The unemployment rate dropped to 9.5 percent for the month of June even as the U.S. government dropped 225,000 Census jobs, the Labor Department reported Friday in another sign that the economy is facing a vulnerable recovery. . .

. . .The unemployment rate fell as 652,000 people out of work gave up on their job searches and left the labor force. People who are no longer looking for work aren't counted as unemployed.

"The unemployment rate fell to 9.5 percent from 9.7 percent as the 301,000 decline in household employment was more than offset by a drop of 652,000 in the labor force, thus the rate fell not because of a pick up in job gains,' Miller Tabak analyst Peter Boockvar told Fox Business Network.

two thirds of a million people quit looking for work, just gave up. and the jughead and his crones have the balls to say we're in a recovery. that we're headed in the right direction.

sure looking depressing to me

NASA Chief: One of the Foremost Tasks Obama Gave Me was to Make Muslims “Feel Good” About Themselves

Bolden: I am here in the region – its sort of the first anniversary of President Barack Obama’s visit to Cairo – and his speech there when he gave what has now become known as Obama’s “Cairo Initiative” where he announced that he wanted this to become a new beginning of the relationship between the United States and the Muslim world. When I became the NASA Administrator – before I became the NASA Administrator - he charged me with three things: One was that he wanted me to re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, that he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with predominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."

Iran’s Underground Revolution
Posted by Lisa Daftari

As Iranians passed the one-year mark of a tumultuous and historic year, an unimpressive and rather quiet June 12 anniversary left many wondering what happened to the disenchanted Iranians. Regime threats, issued weeks in advance against protesters engaging in anniversary demonstrations, succeeded in deterring some. However, from its initial moments, this movement was remarkably forged by hundreds of thousands of courageous Iranians who have not let government intimidation discourage them. Journalists, analysts, and politicians questioned the movement’s strength and survival, wondering if President Ahmadinejad, the clerics, and their Revolutionary Guard had succeeded in quashing the masses.

The people of Iran tell a different story. Rather than pouring onto the streets and surrendering to the brutality of regime forces, the Iranian people say they have voluntarily taken a step back. The one-year anniversary of Iran’s fraudulent election has seen a transformation in the Iranian people and consequently, their ongoing movement.

“What’s the point of demonstrating when we are putting up our finest and most intellectual minds to go up against conscienceless guards to be shot at?,” asked Maryam, a 34-year-old radio producer for Iran’s state media in an early morning phone call to Tehran. “People have given up too much over the last year and have since changed their strategy,” she said in her native Farsi.

Maryam is politically active and socially in tune with the changing ambiance in Iran. She wants regime change for her country. An Iran that is secular and democratic is what’s best for everyone, she said.

Among friends, Maryam is considered to be bold, courageous, and even “crazy” for speaking out openly against the regime. Yet, she could not even use her real name in this interview.

Like many Iranians, Maryam had friends who were arrested and beaten during the protests. She quickly became upset when remembering some of these instances and changed the topic. Iranians have learned a very valuable lesson over the last 12 months, she concluded. They realized that they could be more efficient staying home.

Despite the appearance that the movement has been suppressed in the absence of demonstrations, intellectuals and politically active Iranians like Maryam and her friends are opting to sit home to think, write, publish, and discuss politics.

Welcome to Iran’s Intellectual Revolution.

Chicago's End Run Around The Supreme Court, and The Constitution

The definition of blatant disregard.

Chicago Approves Tough New Handgun Restrictions
Friday, 02 Jul 2010 05:48 PM

The Chicago City Council on Friday approved what city officials say is the strictest handgun ordinance in the nation, but not before lashing out at the Supreme Court ruling they contend makes the city more dangerous because it will put more guns in people's hands.

The new ordinance bans gun shops in Chicago and prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes, even onto their porches or in their garages, with a handgun. It becomes law in 10 days, Corporation Counsel Mara Georges said.

The vote comes just four days after the high court ruled Americans have the right to have handguns anywhere for self-defense — a ruling that makes the city's 28-year-old ban on such weapons unenforceable.

"I wish that we weren't in the position where we're struggling to figure out a way in which we can limit the guns on our streets and still meet the test that our Supreme Court has set for us," said Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, minutes before the council voted 45-0 to approve the ordinance.

It was swift action for a council that typically takes far longer to pass ordinances, but Mayor Richard Daley — who promised the city would not "roll over" if the court ruled against the city's handgun ban — clearly wanted to give police a law they could begin enforcing as quickly as possible.

"You have to get the tools to the police," Daley said.

And even though the ban remains in effect until it is struck down by an appellate court, Georges said it was important to pass a new law to clear up confusion Chicagoans might have about what kind of weapons they can legally own and how they can use them.

Some residents applauded the vote.

"There's just too much killing going on (and) we need protection," said Mary Fitts, a retiree who came from her home on the South Side to watch the vote. "You can't even sit on your front porch."

Others, like Senesceria Craig, wondered how much good it would do. "They're not going to abide by it," she said of criminals, pointing out that her 20-year-old daughter was shot and killed with a handgun in 1992, 10 years after the city's ban went into effect.

But gun rights opponents quickly criticized Daley and the City Council and promised lawsuits.

"The city wants to put as many hurdles and as much red tape in the way of someone who just wants to exercise their constitutional right to have a gun," said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist with the National Rifle Association in Illinois.

Vandermyde would not say when lawsuits might be filed. But he said the ordinance would be attacked on a number of fronts — including requiring prospective gun owners to pay $15 for each firearm registered, $100 every three years for a Chicago Firearms Permit, not to mention the cost of the required training — saying they all add up to discrimination against the poor.

"How are some people in some of the poorer neighborhoods who merely want to have firearms for self-defense supposed to afford to get through all this red tape?" he asked.

David Lawson, one of the plaintiffs in the case decided by the Supreme Court this week, agreed. He wondered if a challenge could be raised over the issue of training, saying it's unfair to require training but prohibit that training from taking place in the city.

Daley and Georges said they expect lawsuits but that they were confident they could withstand legal challenges.

The ordinance also:

— Limits the number of handguns residents can register to one per month and prohibits residents from having more than one handgun in operating order at any given time.

— Requires residents in homes with children to keep handguns in lock boxes or equipped with trigger locks and requires residents convicted of a gun offense to register with the police department, much as sex offenders are now required to do.

— Prohibits people from owning a gun if they were convicted of a violent crime, domestic violence or two or more convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

— Requires prospective gun owners to be fingerprinted, take a four-hour class and one-hour training at a gun range.

— Calls for the police department to maintain a registry of every registered handgun owner in the city, with the names and addresses to be made available to police officers, firefighters and other emergency responders.

Those who have handguns, illegal under the ban, would have 90 days from the day the ordinance is enacted to register those weapons.

Residents convicted of violating the ordinance face a fine of up to $5,000 and be locked up for as long as 90 days for a first offense, and a fine of up to $10,000 and as long as six months behind bars for subsequent convictions.

Handguns on Campus Make Utah Colleges Model After Court Rulings
By David Glovin and Oliver Staley

Students at Utah Valley University and other public colleges in the state are free to carry concealed handguns on campus if they have a permit. Nick Moyes is one of them.

“It’s about self-defense, the ability to defend yourself,” said Moyes, 28, a student who brings his Sig Sauer P-226 9mm handgun onto campus in Orem, Utah, every chance he gets. “That’s a God-given right.”

Moyes’s pistol-packing privilege has nothing to do with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling June 28 that will likely be used to attack gun laws across the U.S. In 2007, Utah said holders of concealed-weapons permits like Moyes may bring such weapons onto campus, providing that right long before the justices ruled.

Now, states including Michigan and Colorado may find themselves following Utah’s lead as gun advocates file court challenges and propose legislation to scuttle existing bans on weapons on campus. Driving future efforts will be the Supreme Court’s ruling, which extends the federal right to bear arms to states, said James Jacobs, a law professor at the Manhattan campus of New York University and author of a gun-control book.

“It will take years to flesh out the full extent of the Constitutional right to bear arms,” he said of the likely impact of the court’s ruling in McDonald v. Chicago.

The decision was a victory for the National Rifle Association, which joined a group of Chicago residents in challenging the city’s handgun ban. Jacobs said courts around the country will now be asked to decide how far to apply the McDonald ruling. One issue judges might be asked to rule on is whether it applies to private-school gun bans, he said.

Lots of Questions

“There will be lots and lots of questions,” Jacobs said.

Rachel Parsons, a spokeswoman for the NRA, said the gun- rights group wants “a national dialogue” over “what we’re going to do to keep our kids safe when they’re at school.”

David Burnett, president of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, said his group is encouraged by the court ruling.

“As far as the ruling itself, we would be hard pressed to take the ruling and apply it to campuses,” said Burnett, a 2009 graduate of the University of Kentucky in Lexington. “But it is indicative of the movement as a whole. If cities can’t ban guns, why should a board of directors of a college be able to?”

. . ."This 'Islamic Center' is not part of a religious movement," she's said on her web site. "It is a political movement designed to fracture the moral and political foundation of Middle Tennessee.". . .

. . . "We Americans pride ourselves on being a tolerant people, but tolerance does not require naiveté. Our nation is at war with Islamic extremists. Radical Muslims are killing our servicemen and servicewomen every day. They say they want to kill us, and time and again they have backed up their words with action.". . .

. . . "If you run him off (from your land) he will leave, but if he stays overnight, he will fight because Allah gave it to him,". . .

. . . "Every time they establish a mosque, they demand Sharia law,". . .

DOJ Slimes Whistleblower Adams in Panthergate Case

From Roger Simon at PJM:

Call it Panthergate, call it what you will. The Department of Justice (or its minions) is already attempting to slime its whistleblower J. Christian Adams — the attorney who recently resigned from the Department over its abandonment of the New Black Panther case.

Now Adams has struck back, telling Pajamas Media that the DOJ’s smears were a “blatant lie.”
Adams appeared on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show to tell his story Tuesday, following which a “source familiar with the case” came forward, trying to tarnish the lawyer’s reputation. Pajamas Media was informed by a Fox producer:
The person said that any story should include the fact that Adams only left DOJ after being put into a job he disliked, and that he has long been an advocate of conservative views. Source also says Adams’ claims are “willfully inaccurate.”
This battle had been brewing for several days since Adams — using the Panther case as an example — asserted in the Washington Times, and then in more detail in Pajamas Media, that institutionalized bias had infiltrated Eric Holder’s Justice Department. Civil rights complaints would only be pursued when initiated by people of color against white people.

When it was the other way around, the complaints, even when well-substantiated as with the New Black Panthers, would disappear in a bureaucratic morass.

The attacks on Adams — whether from the “anonymous source” or from DOJ spokesperson Tracy Schmaler — were of surprising ferocity, indicating nervousness on the part of the Department.

Adams told Pajamas Media:
I was appalled and disappointed by the DOJ yesterday. They included a blatant lie in their response to my interview.  They told Fox News I had been “unhappy with my position.” Not only would this be a personnel matter they aren’t supposed to discuss, it’s a fairy tale.
In fact on April 28 I got a promotion, so maybe they can let me know what position I was unhappy with.

The problem with smearing me is that there are many others who know the truth inside the Department. Documents which they refuse to turn over pursuant to subpoenas from the Civil Rights Commission prove it. Testimony from other DOJ employees, which they refuse to allow, would also prove it.

Meanwhile, Richard Fernandez at PJM, points out that, if what Adams says is true, that means, the Obama Administration shut down the Panther case, not because of any law, but simply because they wanted to:

'A Pure Exercise in the Abuse of Power': The DOJ/Black Panthers Scandal

by Richard Fernandez
The most serious allegation in the whole affair is that certain officials countenanced a crime simply because they wanted to.

The salient thing about J. Christian Adams’s accusation that the Obama administration deliberately let off the New Black Panther Party after it engaged in voter intimidation is that, if true, it constitutes a pure exercise in the abuse of power. The other wrongs it represents — the perversion of the electoral process, the violation of civil rights — are secondary. The most serious allegation in the whole affair is that the certain officials countenanced a crime because they wanted to. The most concentrated expression of tyranny is malice in the service of caprice.

Adams was a Department of Justice lawyer who resigned in disgust after “we were ordered to dismiss the case. I mean we were told drop the charges against the New Black Panther Party. It’s the easiest case I ever had at the Justice Department. It doesn’t get any easier than this. If this doesn’t constitute voter intimidation, nothing will. .. ”

Parable of the Geese

                          Painting by Faigee Niebow

1. Hear now, ye seekers, the parable of the geese.

2. In the twilight of seasons, in the North, ere winter cometh, they take flight, and no man guideth them to their appointed nests in the South.

3. And when they take flight, they darken the sky, and fill it with noise. And by that we know they are moving to and fro. And that winter cometh soon, or that spring is well upon us.

4. But geese, when they have all their cares meted out to them by foolish men with only the best of intentions, lose their desire to fly to their proper nests, and finding some convenient pond, there upon they settle, and grow fat, and make demands of the birds who are native to the pond, and befoul their waters and take their provender, and hatch younglings, who stay and cause the other birds to flee.

5. Look well to your own pond, therefore, that the geese take not which is yours and leave you with neither nest nor sustenance.

Fatherhood Conundrum

My dear friend Daphne gave her readers a problem to solve. She, herself had three possible ideas.  Perhaps, problem and solve aren't the right words to use when discussing this topic. One of the "solutions" seemed a bit too final, though I suspect it was made in jest. Here is her post in full, without the comments.

I happened to eavesdrop on a debate of sorts yesterday, I immediately came up with three separate answers to the central question, none of which formed a satisfactory or cohesive conclusion and one that bordered on the extremely hypocritical.
The conversation was centered on following premise:
Should a man be legally required to financially support a child he did not want to father.
They had a few caveats to take into consideration.
He was single, used protection consistently, had made it very clear that he had no desire to father a child with the woman he was sleeping with, inquired and requested that she use some form of birth control.
So, we have a single, responsible man who has told his girlfriend in no uncertain terms that he has zero desire to father her children but due to honest contraceptive failure, or her deception, he ends up facing a large financial responsibility for an unwanted, unplanned child that the woman has decided to keep, despite his strong objections.
My first response was a firm no, he should not be compelled to financially support her decision to keep the baby. A woman would never be legally compelled to abort or become a mother against her wishes, so why should a man, under these circumstances, be forced into a lifetime of fatherhood? The woman should be prepared to shoulder the financial ramifications of her decision alone since it was made without the man’s mutual consent.
My second response was a resounding yes, of course he should provide support for his child’s basic needs. The child’s feelings and general well-being came into play for me on this answer. The majority of children who live without the financial support of their fathers generally rely on some sort of tax funded programs or tax abatements to bridge the gaps in their mother’s paychecks. Children are expensive, even with a Walmart on every other corner. More importantly, children know when their fathers choose to contribute nothing for the food in their bellies or clothes on their backs. That can be an emotionally devastating rejection, living with the knowledge that your parent essentially doesn’t care if you’re dead or alive. I would prefer, however utopian the thought, that no child suffered that unnecessary dark bruise.
The third, knee jerk bit of inanity that leaped into my brain was righteously Calvinist in nature; you shouldn’t be sleeping with someone you don’t want to make babies with!  A bad sentence and a load of howling hypocrisy all rolled into one. I’ve never played by that rule in my own life and I still don’t. My husband and I do not want anymore children and we still like to knock boots, but how fair is it to expect a young, unmarried man to take the permanent precautions we have against an unwanted pregnancy? The woman of his heart’s desire, future mother of his most beloved, cherished children, could be waiting around the next corner of his life.
I’m stumped.
Your turn.
That is a real conundrum. It's a situation I would hate to be in, if I were a man. On the other hand, there are many more women whose children go through life without ever knowing what a father is, or what a father will ever be. Having grown up semi-motherless, myself, is like being an amputee, in a way. You always feel like half of you is missing.

And then there is the daily, obscene parade of  sloven,  foul-mouthed, uneducated teen mothers who wind up on Maury Povitch's wretched cavalcade of excess - seated next to an equally repulsive potential father. Potential, because in the hideous spectacle that follows, we see the circus master with the manilla envelope containing the DNA results that will either bind one loser to the other as the father of the unintended consequence, or it will free him  from any responsibility to a child who may know him as the only  'daddy' he's ever had. Interspersed scenes of close-up shots on 'daddy's' face and behind the curtain shots of the poor tot come up, to the 'ooohs, and awwws' of the equally sloven, stupid audience members, who seem to be wagering on the outcome. It's all so much destructive entertainment.

And then, after bitter accusations, and weeping and teeth-gnashing we get the results:  Either yes or no. But the money shot, the hook that keeps the kids watching this festival of dregs is seeing the reaction by the boy to the test. More often that not, he remains in denial of his responsibility.  The reaction to a test that exonerates the boy is equally telling. He usually jumps for joy at the prospect of not having to support this child. Relief. Joy. The 'weight', meaning the child, is now forever NOT his responsibility.

Only occasionally do we see a man of any substance on the stage. You can tell his character when, upon finding out that the child is his:  Joy. Happiness. Resolve.  And when finding out that he isn't the father:  Sorrow, a sense of betrayal, and in the very rarest of instances: Resolve. To take care of the child he didn't father, knowing that the child has looked up to him as his father. Even on a show highlighting the low-lifes, one or two rise above the pit and walk upright as men.

Imitation isn't always the best form of flattery, sometimes it's a condemnation.

Things Dick Cheney is glad he didn't say

Harry Potter Fans Irate at "Honor Killing" Threat to Actress

Dawn breaks over the Leaky Cauldron -- the premiere Harry Potter fan site has posted the
news that the father and brother of HP movie actress Afshan Azad have been charged with threatening her life. Her brother has been charged with actually assaulting the 22-year-old actress, who plays Padma Patil in the films.

Go to the link and check out the Comments section. After a slow start the discussion has begun to pick up steam, focus, and direction. One fan reports that Afshan's strict Muslim family discovered that she has a Hindu boyfriend. Others have referred to the "honor" killings of Aqsa Parvez in Canada and Noor Almaleki in Arizona. The latest to comment has delivered the first direct boot to the head of Islam:

"This in the name of Allah where women are nothing but things to be disposed of as men see fit. Yeah, that sounds like a kind and caring religion to me -- NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will Harry Potter fans begin to recognize in radical Islam the face of Voldemort and the Death Eaters? Or will the PC/MC indoctrination they have received all their lives corral their natural, spontaneous outrage into the safe confines of "cultural relativism"? Meanwhile, wherever she is, Afshan Azad may not know it, but her very own "Dumbledore's Army" is forming on her behalf.

O you who believe! when the call is made for prayer on Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of God and leave off business; that is better for you, if you know. (Qur'an 62:9)

And when the prayer is ended, then disperse in the land and seek of Allah's bounty, and remember Allah much, that ye may be successful. (Qur'an 62:10)

Federal Judge Rules Mexico Can Join Lawsuit Against Arizona

From Weasel Zippers:

(Fox News)- Mexico gets to have a say in one of the lawsuits challenging Arizona’s immigration enforcement law.

A federal judge on Thursday granted Mexico’s request to be allowed to file a legal brief supporting the challenge. That means the judge will consider the brief Mexico submitted previously.
Mexico says it wants to defend its citizens’ rights and that the law would lead to racial profiling and hinder trade and tourism. It also says the law would hinder work against drug trafficking and related violence.

Arizona’s policy, which President Felipe Calderon derided during a recent U.S. trip as “discriminatory,” states police can’t randomly stop people and demand papers, and the law prohibits racial profiling.
Mexican law, however, requires law enforcement officials “to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country before attending to any issues.”

Amnesty International recently issued a report claiming illegal immigrants in Mexico — typically from Central America — face abuse, rape and kidnappings, and that Mexican police do little to stop it. When illegal immigration was a criminal offense in Mexico, officials were known to seek bribes from suspects to keep them out of jail.

The law takes effect July 29 unless blocked by a court.
