Julius Caesar of the Internet

From The Wall Street Journal
The FCC puts another industry under political control.

A federal appeals court ruled last month that the Federal Communications Commission lacks the authority to regulate the Internet. No worries, mate. This week the Obama Administration chose to "reclassify" the Internet so it can regulate the Web anyway. This crowd is nothing if not legally creative.

For the past decade, broadband has been classified as an "information service" and thus more lightly regulated than traditional telephone services. This has led to an explosion of new investment and Web innovation, but it hasn't sat well with Democrats who want more control over the telecom business, as well as with some Web companies (Google) that want more leverage over Internet service providers like Time Warner or Verizon.

Associated Press FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski did their dirty work this week by announcing that he plans to reclassify broadband lines so his agency can regulate them under rules that were written for Ma Bell in the 1930s. This means subjecting the Internet to new political supervision—from the federal government and 50 state public utility commissions. The goal is to put one more industry under Washington's political thumb.

Even Bill Clinton's FCC, under Chairman Bill Kennard, had refused to go this far. "Classifying Internet access as telecommunication services could have significant consequences for the global development of the Internet," said Mr. Kennard in a 1998 speech. "We recognized the unique qualities of the Internet, and do not presume that legacy regulatory frameworks are appropriately applied to it."

Mr. Genachowski says he's merely hewing to the political middle, pursuing a "third way" on regulation that will "allow the agency to move forward with broadband initiatives that empower consumers and enhance economic growth, while also avoiding regulatory overreach."

But Mr. Genachowski's promise to put in place safeguards so broadband companies are subjected to "only a handful" of phone regulations is hardly reassuring. Even if he keeps his word, what prevents future FCC Chairmen from reversing course? If Google or some other big political donor doesn't get its way, its lobbyists will descend on the White House or Congress, which will lobby the FCC, which may well do their bidding.

Our reporting suggests that something like that may have happened in this case. All indications early this week were that the FCC wouldn't take such a drastic step. But when a Washington Post story reported that news, the liberal "consumer" lobbies went to the barricades, and Mr. Genachowski's team sequestered itself from other FCC commissioners for most of Tuesday. Late Wednesday, he broke the "reclassify" news. Perhaps they all had overnight epiphanies.

In any case, Mr. Genachowski has provided no evidence that the current regulatory approach is failing. The Supreme Court's 2005 Brand X decision reconfirmed cable broadband's current classification as an information service, and that regulatory certainty has led to a burst of capital investment and competition.

In the past five years, U.S. companies have invested $576 billion in communications equipment and structures, according to Bret Swanson of Entropy Economics. Add computers and software, and U.S. capital expenditures on information technology since 2005 have totaled $2.2 trillion. Telecom accounts for nearly half (47%) of all non-structure capital investment in the U.S.

The FCC decision adds a new element of political risk to these investments, which can only make companies more cautious. At a minimum, the FCC action will be challenged in court and introduce years of uncertainty at a time when the economy needs all the risk-taking and investment it can get.

At worst, it will lead to a new era of political meddling in Internet investment, bandwidth allocation, and no doubt much more. Google and others who are cheering now may not like where this ends up when, say, religious right groups start demanding FCC content regulations during the next GOP Administration.

Autos, health care, energy, Wall Street and now telecom. Is there any American industry this Administration doesn't want to run?

Times Square bomb suspect had ties to key Pakistani militants

Faisal Shahzad's family background may help explain why he grew radicalized and allegedly contacted the Pakistani Taliban, sources say.

From the La Times:

Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square bomber, grew up in a Pakistani family whose circle of acquaintances included two future militants — a Taliban leader and one of the participants in the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai, India, a government source said Friday.

Officials now believe this family background may help explain why Shahzad, after immigrating to the United States, grew radicalized and allegedly contacted the Pakistani Taliban via the Internet. The group would have welcomed him because as a naturalized U.S. citizen, he could easily travel to and from Pakistan.

Agents interviewing Shahzad, 30, who lived in Connecticut, also learned that he was upset over repeated CIA drone attacks on militants in Pakistan, his native country. He was also troubled by marital and financial difficulties and a foreclosure on his home, said the government source, who has been briefed on the investigation. He spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.

The revelations provide fresh indications that the Pakistani Taliban — in the past mainly concerned with fighting the Pakistani government — has broadened its focus to include the U.S. by encouraging Shahzad to detonate a Nissan Pathfinder in New York last week.

But it remained unclear whether Shahzad's Internet contact with the Taliban was an attempt to volunteer, or whether the militants reached out to him.

"What we don't know is if he was actively recruited by these guys or if he recruited himself," said a second source, a senior U.S. official.

But, the senior official said, if the Taliban has widened its focus to carry out attacks on the United States, then "it would change the game." He added that it could force the U.S. to reassess the threat it faces from Pakistan and how best to respond.

Terrorists Have New Focus on Attacking U.S., Officials Warn
Saturday, 08 May 2010 12:10 PM Article Font Size

WASHINGTON – The failed bombing in New York's Times Square is a possible signal that militant leaders in Pakistan have shifted their focus to targets in the U.S. and other Western countries instead of sticking to their home base, according to U.S. counterterrorism officials.

The attack, they also warned, could be only the first by terrorist groups that seek to avoid detection by using simpler methods that are more independently planned. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

U.S. investigators and intelligence agencies are trying to establish whether accused bomber Faisal Shahzad was trained or recruited for the Times Square operation by any Pakistan-based terrorist organization, including the Pakistani Taliban. Shahzad, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, spent five months in Pakistan before returning to the United States in February and preparing his attack.

Shahzad has told investigators that he trained in the lawless tribal areas of Waziristan, where both al-Qaida and the Pakistani Taliban operate. He was arrested aboard an Emirates Airlines jet in New York just minutes before it was scheduled to take off for Dubai.

A senior military official told The Associated Press that investigators believe Shahzad had bomb-making training in Pakistan, sponsored in part by elements of the Pakistani Taliban.

If those suspicions prove correct, it suggests that groups based in Pakistan, including the Taliban along the Afghan border, may be taking on a more global approach after years of focusing attacks largely on government or coalition forces in their region.

That focus could stem from the Taliban's continued close association with senior al-Qaida leaders, who are believed to be hiding in the lawless regions on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, said one former Obama administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.

This former official said the Pakistan Taliban may be another potential al-Qaida affiliate that wants the U.S. out of Afghanistan and the Pakistan Army out of their villages. After months of intensified attacks from drone aircraft, mainly by the CIA in a classified program, Taliban leaders may be more intent on going after the U.S.

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said the alleged bomber's possible links to the Pakistani Taliban will not change the U.S. approach to Pakistan or support for Pakistan's step-by-step approach to confronting internal terrorism threats.

"We are in the passenger seat, they are behind the wheel," Morrell said. "They are the ones who are going to determine the direction, the pace, the speed of their operations."

Morrell said he had no information on whether the suspect trained at a terrorist camp in North Waziristan, a sanctuary for militants who attack U.S. forces in Afghanistan. He said the possible link would not increase pressure to deal with North Waziristan more quickly.

"There is a recognition on everybody's part that all the terrorist safe havens in Pakistan must be dealt with," Morrell said.

Juan Zarate, President George W. Bush's former deputy national security adviser, agreed that the Times Square attack may mark a new chapter in the terrorist threat. "The model may be shifting here, in part because they may have made a calculus that it's much more difficult to have a big ticket attack, and secondly, they may have moved to a model of disruption rather than destruction," he said.

He added that the sloppiness of the attack has raised questions, as U.S. officials work to unravel Shahzad's possible ties to terrorist organizations in Pakistan.

"If he was trained, he was trained pretty poorly," said Zarate, who is now a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

He said it may be, in part, be a reflection of the pressure that the U.S. and the Pakistani military has put on the militant cells in Pakistan. It may suggest the poorer quality of training available or the lack of higher quality recruits that they've been able to attract.

"Maybe they're weren't quite sure about this guy, so they gave him a little bit of training and, kind of threw spaghetti at the wall," said Zarate.

Chairman Of The Cordoba Initiative Comments On South Park Cartoonifada

From this article in the Washington Post, the words of Faisal Rauf, responding a question about the South Park cartoonifada:
Conflicting cultural norms require respect, restraint

Q: What is the obligation of a Western, democratic government to protect individual freedoms in light of a realistic terrorist threat? Are the producers of South Park right to forfeit their freedom of expression in the interests of protecting their employees? Are the governments of Europe right to ban burqas in the interest of fostering a more open society?

[A:] Your question is about different cultural norms in a shrinking world.

Western culture makes freedom of expression nearly a religious value. It protects the right to say anything, no matter how insensitive or scandalous. Everyone and everything can be insulted.

Many non-Western cultures - not just Muslim - balance freedom of expression with respect for elders, traditions and modesty. The idea of respect and honor to elders is deeply ingrained in their psyches.

When I was a boy in Malaysia, in our play we knew we could insult each other freely. That was a game. But we could never insult each other's parents. Do that, and we were in for a serious fight.

For Muslims, respect for the Prophet Muhammad is much more sacred than respect for elders. In fact, Muslims would not insult Jesus or Moses because they were prophets of God and demand respect.

The same is true on the issue of the burqa, which covers the entire body and face, leaving just a slit for the eyes.

In the Western world now, the right to wear almost anything has become a symbol of freedom. It is an expression of women's equality. In the Muslim world, men and women dress so they are not provocative to one another.

But it is important to note that Islam does not require the burqa, and even bans it on occasion. Muslim women performing their pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj, are not allowed to hide their faces. The burqa is a custom of some - but certainly not all -- Muslim cultures. The spirit of the Muslim law is about modesty.

So what is the role of government?

Freedom of expression is the law in the United States. It is something that the government must uphold. But the people who create this insulting material about the Prophet Muhammad should not be naïve. They are digging deeply at the cultural values of huge numbers of people, many of whom now live as law-abiding citizens of the United States.

In this enlightened age, would the producers of South Park insult the values of African Americans?

As to burqas, it is the cultural norm in Belgium and France for women to reveal their faces. It is a cultural norm in Saudi Arabia that they do not. If Muslims support the right of the Saudi government to require Western women in Saudi Arabia to wear abayas that cover their bodies and heads (but not their faces), then Muslims must support the right of the Belgian and French governments to ban the burqa in Belgium and France.

Can we be upset in these times of heightened national security that the Belgians and French want to know who is walking around on their streets? And in these times when sensitivity about religion and respect are at a boil, cannot the arbiters of Western media show a little restraint?

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is chairman of the Cordoba Initiative, an independent, non-partisan and multi-national project that seeks to use religion to improve Muslim-West relations. (www.cordobainitiative.org) He is the author of "What's Right with Islam is What's Right With America."

By Feisal Abdul Rauf | May 5, 2010; 9:48 AM ET
It seems to me that Feisal Abdul Rauf is setting himself up as a Moslem leader here in the United States. Take a look at his bio:
Imam Feisal has appeared regularly at the Council on Foreign Relations and the World Economic Forum (Davos)....
Read the entire bio.

In my view, this man is more dangerous than all the spokesmen of CAIR put together.

Approval Of The "Nick" Of Female Circumcision

That's the proposal from a bioethics committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics right here in the United States!

From Atlas Shrugs, citing the New York Times:
In a controversial change to a longstanding policy concerning the practice of female circumcision in some African and Asian cultures, the American Academy of Pediatrics is suggesting that American doctors be given permission to perform a ceremonial pinprick or “nick” on girls from these cultures if it would keep their families from sending them overseas for the full circumcision.

The academy’s committee on bioethics, in a policy statement last week, said some pediatricians had suggested that current federal law, which “makes criminal any nonmedical procedure performed on the genitals” of a girl in the United States, has had the unintended consequence of driving some families to take their daughters to other countries to undergo mutilation.

“It might be more effective if federal and state laws enabled pediatricians to reach out to families by offering a ritual nick as a possible compromise to avoid greater harm,” the group said....

A member of the academy’s bioethics committee, Dr. Lainie Friedman Ross, associate director of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago, said the panel’s intent was to issue a “statement on safety in a culturally sensitive context.”

Dr. Friedman Ross said that the committee members “oppose all types of female genital cutting that impose risks or physical or psychological harm,” and consider the ritual nick “a last resort,” but that the nick is “supposed to be as benign as getting a girl’s ears pierced. It’s taking a pin and creating a drop of blood.”
Read it all.

If the above doesn't convince you of the evils of multiculturalism, nothing will.

Louisiana Bans Sharia Law!

Some of the main points of my plan against Islam, are to become energy independent, end Muslim immigration, and officially ban Sharia Law. Thankfully the state of Louisiana has done their part, with Sharia Law. To preserve Western Civilization, we are going to have to vote in more politicians that are willing to fight Islam head on. The Netherland’s Geert Wilders would be one, and Vijay Kumar of Tennessee, would be another. We are finally heading in the right direction, keep on speaking out!

Libel on tour: James Gill
By James Gill

Within minutes Monday a legislative committee repudiated both Islamic and British law.

Neither, perhaps, represents an immediate threat to justice in Louisiana, but it was not entirely an alarmist and xenophobic stunt when the committee approved two bills by Rep. Ernest Wooton, R-Belle Chase. Mostly, but not entirely.

One of Wooton’s bills, which provides that no foreign law shall be applied here if it violates a right guaranteed by the American Constitution, is by any rational measure superfluous. But it is not unknown for immigrant litigants to invoke the tenets of Sharia to which, the committee was told, the Maryland courts deferred in a child custody case.

The Louisiana Supreme Court has so far insisted that cases in America are settled according to American law, but the committee figured it was wise to commit future jurists to that sound principle. At least the bill does no harm.

Wooton’s other bill may be largely symbolic too, although it is worth passing just in case. It does not single out the Limeys, but its refusal to enforce foreign defamation judgments that are “repugnant to the public policy of this state” is clearly aimed at them. Other states have passed, or are considering, similar legislation in response to a libel award rendered in London against the American writer Rachel Ehrenfeld.

It must be embarrassing for the British when American legislators lump them together with the avatars of medieval repression, but plenty of them are evidently aware it is fair, at least in the context of libel law. As a general election approaches, all three major parties in the UK promise to reform laws that have created “libel tourism” on the very island where John Milton wrote the book on press freedom, “Areopagitica.” That was in 1644, so it’s about time the government got the hang of it.

Instead the law enables large corporations or deep-pocketed individuals to stifle freedom of expression far beyond the shores of Britain, increasingly so in the Internet age, as Ehrenfeld discovered when her book “Funding Evil” identified Saudi billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz as a financial supporter of al-Qaida.

Paul L. Williams, Ph.D.

The Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania has become a staging area for terrorism and the establishment of a universal caliphate.

The latest evidence supporting this claim comes from Faisal Shahzad’s trip to Matamoras, at the foothills of the Poconos, where he purchased boxes of M-88s from a fireworks store.

The high powered firecrackers, which sell for $10.00 a box, ended up as detonators for a crude bomb that Shahzad tried to set off in Times Square last weekend.

Matamoras is less than an hour’s drive from the George Washington Bridge.

Fifteen miles from Matamoras is Saylorsburg, a sleepy rural Pocono community, where powerful Turkish pasha Fethullah Gulen has established a 45 acre mountain fortress. The fortress remains protected by 100 Turkish guards and a sentry post. Local residents have complained of automatic gunfire coming from the complex and of a low flying helicopter that surveys the area for would-be intruders.

Gulen, who has been labeled “the most dangerous Islamist in the world,” has amassed a fortune in excess of $25 billion for use in the restoration of the Ottoman Empire and the established of a New Islamic World Order.

In 1998, Gulen fled to the United States from his native Turkey to avoid prosecution on charges that he was attempting to undermine Turkey’s secular government in order to establish an Islamic republic.

Undercover Crusaders on the trail of Gulen in Turkey

With his vast fortune, Gulen established the Justice and Democratic Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma or AKP) which gained control of Turkey in 2002.

Under the AKP, Turkey has transformed from a secular state into an Islamic country with 85,000 active mosques – - one for every 350- citizens – - the highest number per capita in the world, 90,000 imams, more imams than teachers and physicians – - and thousands of state-run Islamic schools.

The tentacles of Gulen’s movement now stretch throughout central Asia, including the newly formed Russian republics of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmernistan which are becoming increasingly Islamic and radicalized.

Gulen has also established thousands of madrassahs (Islamic religious schools) throughout the world, including 85 in the United States.

The Poconos have lured other radical Muslims, including the six terrorists who sought to inflict mass casualties at Fort Dix, a military base in New Jersey.

In February 2007, the would-be terrorists rented a place in Big Bass Lake, a gated community of 1,400 homes in the tiny Pocono town of Gouldsboro.

During their month-long stay at Big Bass Lake, the six radical Muslims – - all foreign-born and in their 20s, rented a public firing range to practice attacks on the military base.

Because of its close proximity to New York and other major metropolitan areas, the Poconos appears an ideal place to launch terror attacks on U.S. soil.

“We still have very remote areas. These people can come and get lost,” says Robert G. Werts, program manager for the Northeast Pennsylvania Terrorism Task Force.

John Horgan, director of the International Center for the Study of Terrorism at Penn State University, maintains that it’s not unusual for terrorists and radical Islamists to seek out areas that lie beneath the radar screen.

“It’s precisely because they’re overlooked that they’re attractive,” Mr. Horgan says. “In these rural areas, you’re not subject to the intense surveillance.”

Islamists Threaten to Attack Belgium Over Burqa Ban

From Weasel Zippers:

(Reuters) - Belgian authorities are analysing a video containing threats to attack the country and other European states if they enforce a ban on full face veils, government officials said on Thursday.

Belgium’s lower house of parliament approved a bill last week that would enforce such a ban but it is unlikely to become law soon because the government has collapsed and parliament is due to be dissolved. France is also considering a ban.

A text written in English on a video posted on the Internet says: “If you ban the burqa, hijab or niqab (veils) … then you will see (a) very dangerous situation in your countries.”

It shows veiled women, some armed with guns, armed men and children carrying weapons and ammunition. They did not identify themselves.

Wearing the burqa, hijab or niqab is every Muslim woman’s right and governments will pay for their decision to ban the veil, the text of the video says

Suspicious package clears Times Square streets - UPDATED - ALL CLEAR

NEW YORK – Police have cleared streets around Times Square after finding a cooler left on a sidewalk on the same block where a failed car bomb was found over the weekend.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says police have created some distance between the cooler and people. He says they are "in an abundance of caution" and looking into whether the cooler was abandoned by someone.

Browne says no buildings have been ordered evacuated. Three blocks around Times Square were closed as a precaution because the cooler was found about a block from where a failed car bomb was found Saturday night.

No other details were immediately available. The call was received about 1:15 p.m.

New recycling bins with tracking chips coming to Alexandria

Alexandria residents soon will have to pay for larger home recycling
bins featuring built-in monitoring devices.

The City Council added a mandatory $9 charge to its residents' annual
waste collection fee.

That cash -- roughly $180,000 collected from 19,000 residents-- will
pay for new larger recycling carts equipped with computer microchips,
which will allow the city to keep tabs on its bins and track resident
participation in the city's recycling program.

Obama's Dorian Gray Portrait of plans for an ally

NYT May 1:

Separately, these officials said, Mr. Mitchell's deputy, David Hale, indicated to the Palestinians that if Israel proceeded with the construction of 1,600 housing units in Jerusalem's ultra-orthodox neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, the United States would abstain from, rather than veto, a resolution in the United Nations Security Council condemning the move.
Perhaps it might be a good idea to look at the wording of such a motion before abstaining. After all, the UN has shown a proclivity for the task of double standards regarding jews, especially those in the jewish state. Has any other president EVER made such a move with ANY other ally?

the Bush administration routinely vetoed anti-Israel resolutions in the UN as a matter of principle. Previous Democratic administrations at least waited to see the language of UN resolutions against Israel before offering to abstain on them.

U.S. President Barack Obama has told several European leaders that if Israeli-Palestinian talks remain stalemated into September or October, he will convene an international summit on achieving Mideast peace, senior Israeli officials told Haaretz on Thursday.
Anyone anywhere think these talks will achieve anything? Was the purpose of the pressure on Israel to stop building apartments in the old Jewish neighborhood in Ramat Shlomo to begin talks which will prove talks are pointless, and open the door to imposition? I agree on one thing with Obama. Talks are pointless. Especially when you tell one side if you just hold out, the USa will impose on your enemy the things YOU want.

More from Haaretz:

The officials said the conference would be run by the Quartet of Middle East peacemakers - the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia - in a bid to forge a united global front for creating a Palestinian state. The summit, they said, would address such core issues as borders, security arrangements, Palestinian refugees and the status of Jerusalem.

Obama is determined to exert his influence to establish a Palestinian state, the officials said, and several European leaders have vowed that the EU would support any peace plan proposed by Washington.
When White House spokesman Robert Gibbs did not respond to a question about the Haaretz report above, Rick Richman at Commentary concluded that the "proximity talks" are intended to fail:

Consider the Haaretz report confirmed, and watch the Palestinians adopt a negotiating position intended to create the necessary "stalemate."

In related news, the latest CBS News/New York Times poll shows once again the significant gap in support for Israel between Democrats and Republicans. When asked - "Is your overall opinion of Israel very favorable, mostly favorable, mostly unfavorable, or very unfavorable?" - 48% of Democrats said "very favorable" (7%) or "mostly favorable" (41%). Among Republicans, 70% answered "very favorable" (24%) or "mostly favorable" (46%).

The links below verify EVERY ONE of the assertions above.

Barack Obama is going to impose his version (anyone trust that?) of a peace on the USA's (in the near future - formerly) only reliable ally in the Middle East in the belief that doing so, even if it solves NOTHING except the existence of Israel, will cure the war we face, and as he said, and Petraeus has argued reduce the risk and hate facing American troops.

Has ANYTHING this president believes about how the world works just OUTSIDE the borders proven true? Has he achieved ANYTHING based on those beliefs which improves the security of the American people? Maybe the answer is on the IPOD, made in Shenzen China, he gave the Queen of England.

Could he even get the Olympics? No, but he can attempt to bully our main ally .. and the results will be the same - giving Obama the opening I believe he really wants .. to SWITCH SIDES in the Middle East. Certainly to lay that groundwork. I can hear it ...

'WE must be realistic, my fellow Americans, it is in the American interest to be with the mass of the population and resources in the ME'

Maybe I would feel differently about this reasoning if this president's back ground was more like that of George Marshall, instead of Jeremiah Wright.

Occam's razor, people.

Israel's problem in this case is worse for us. The end point of this administration is going to be far worse for this nation, than an Israel which will reject the imposed peace, or slide into some diplo-purgatory, and face embargoes and pariah-hood.

There will be no nation ANYWHERE who will trust the American people as allies. Obama was fairly elected.

By the people.

13-Story Mosque To Be Built Two Blocks From WTC - Committee In Charge of Development Named After Seat of Islamic Caliphate In Spain

From Watcher:
Islam gets a foothold right near the place where some 3,000 people were killed in the name of Allah on September 11, 2001.
(NY Daily News) A proposal to build a mosque steps from Ground Zero received the support of a downtown committee despite some loved ones of 9/11 victims finding it offensive.

The 13-story mosque and Islamic cultural center was unanimously endorsed by the 12-member Community Board 1's financial district committee.

The $100 million project, called the Cordoba House, is proposed for the old Burlington Coat Factory building at Park Place and Broadway, just two blocks from the World Trade Center site.

"I think it will be a wonderful asset to the community," said committee Chairman Ro Sheffe.

Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf, who helped found the Cordoba Initiative following the 9/11 attacks, said the project is intended to foster better relations between the West and Muslims.

He said the glass-and-steel building would include a 500-seat performing arts venue, a swimming pool and a basketball court. "There's nothing like it," said Rauf, adding that facilities will be open to all New Yorkers.

Daisy Khan, executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement and a member of the Cordoba Initiative's board, said donations are being sought to pay for the construction.

Khan said the project has received little opposition.
Cordoba was the Seat of the Islamic Caliphate, and the location of the Grand Mosque.

This Mosque is named after the Seat of the Caliphate for a reason. I'm quite sure this "Ro Scheffe" shithead doesn't even know the fucking history.

Tthe dumb bitch who would sign away Western Civilization for a few beads of PC feel-goodiness.

From the Astute Bloggers:

Remember Henry Waxman’s threat to subpoena CEOs over their write-downs on the tax credit that disappeared in ObamaCare? Fortune now reveals why those hearings got canceled:

Waxman didn’t simply request documents related to the write down issue. He wanted every document the companies created that discussed what the bill would do to their most uncontrollable expense: healthcare costs.

The request yielded 1,100 pages of documents from four major employers: AT&T, Verizon, Caterpillar and Deere (DE, Fortune 500). No sooner did the Democrats on the Energy Committee read them than they abruptly cancelled the hearings. On April 14, the Committee’s majority staff issued a memo stating that the write downs were “proper and in accordance with SEC rules.” The committee also stated that the memos took a generally sunny view of the new legislation. The documents, said the Democrats’ memo, show that “the overall impact of health reform on large employers could be beneficial.”

Nowhere in the five-page report did the majority staff mention that not one, but all four companies, were weighing the costs and benefits of dropping their coverage.

It’s not just the calculus of mandates and penalties that has employers considering the option of dumping health care and paying more in salaries instead. The mandate to keep “children” on plans until the age of 26 has employers seeing a steep cost curve. For Caterpillar alone, the 26-year-old mandate will cost over $20 million a year. Under those conditions, the penalties look pretty good.

Passenger Questioned After Flight Lands At BWI

LINTCHICUM, Md. (AP) ― Airport officials say police are questioning a passenger who exhibited suspicious behavior during a Continental Express' approach to BWI airport.

Airport spokesman Jonathan Dean says it happened aboard Flight 2699, operated by ExpressJet Airlines, from Newark, N.J., to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Thursday about 6 p.m. He says the crew noticed a passenger behaving suspiciously and the captain declared a precautionary alert.

The plane, a regional jet Embraer-145 carrying 44 passengers and three crew members, landed safely and passengers were allowed to leave the craft. There were no injuries.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police were questioning the passenger.

Comedy Central developing Jesus Christ cartoon

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Comedy Central might censor every image of the Prophet Muhammad on "South Park," yet the network is developing a whole animated series around Jesus Christ.

Jesus-south-park As part of the network's upfront presentation to advertisers (full slate here), Comedy Central is set to announce "JC," a half-hour show about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his "powerful but apathetic father" and live a regular life in New York City.

In the show, God is preoccupied with playing video games while Christ, "the ultimate fish out of water," tries to adjust to life in the big city.

"In general, comedy in purist form always makes some people uncomfortable," said Comedy Central's head of original programming Kent Alterman.

When asked if the show might draw some fire, especially coming on the heels of the network's decision to censor the Muslim faith's religious figure on "South Park," Alterman said its too early in the show's development to be concerned about such matters.

"We don't even know what the show is yet," he said.

Like all Comedy Central executives, Alterman declined to address the recent controversy over "South Park," where the network aired a heavily redacted episode after the show's creators were threatened by an extremist Islamic Web sit

I Love My Town. But I Am Ashamed to Share It With Effing Moonbats Like THIS

General John Glover is spinning in his grave, which is about 4 blocks from where I live. He was the Revolutionary War hero whose Marines rowed Washington across the Delaware.

In the Selectmens office of our town hall hangs the original of the iconic painting "Spirit of '76".

And this is the kind of garbage we have living in our town these days:

Marblehead gym members say giant American flag is offensive

The owner of Gravity Fitness in Marblehead says gym members have complained about the American flag hanging inside the gym.

The Fitness club's owner, 23 year-old Mark Shea, hung the 12 foot long flag from the gym rafters on Friday and had over a dozen complaints by Monday.

Some have complained that the flag blocks gym televisions, while some members have gone as far as to say that the flag is offensive.

One members was quoted to say "It's like putting a Jesus cross in my face."

Another member feels the exact opposite and said "This is America. If you don't like to see the flag you can move somewhere else."

Shea did move the flag so it would not block the TVs but said now the flag is going to stay right where it is. He also said if the complaining members decide to leave the gym he will just have to live with that.

I learned about this from a radio talk show who said that Mr. Shea lost a son in Iraq or Afghanistan. I will find out more about this tomorrow.

Hell will be raised. All suggestions as to how will be gratefully received. Meanwhile I will be finding out where to get a whole lotta flags cheap.

Timeline for Portsmouth NH Bus Standoff

Seacoastonline has what appears to be an up-to-date timeline on the Portsmouth, NH, bus standoff.

Hanover Street cleared; robotic devices sent to inspect bus during bomb scare

By Staff reports
May 06, 2010 11:41 AMPORTSMOUTH

Five hours after police were called to the area of the High-Hanover parking garage for a report of a possible bomb aboard a Greyhound bus, police cleared Hanover Street of onlookers and media, while one man remained on the bus and robotic devices were sent in to inspect the scene.

Sixteen other passengers walked away from the bus two hours after the initial call, with their hands in the air, down the middle of Hanover Street, flanked by SWAT team members.

By 5:30 p.m., according to Schwartz, police had deployed at least two robotic devices, one of which contained video equipment, to inspect the bus.

"We certainly would like him to get off the bus," said Portsmouth Police Capt. Mike Schwartz of the man that remained on board at 5 p.m.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. Thursday, police and firefighters responded to the area of the High-Hanover parking garage, where they surrounded a Greyhound bus while watching a subject inside. Shortly afterwards emergency responders began evacuating nearby businesses.

Police Chief Lou Ferland said police had received information that there may be a subject on the bus with a bomb.

According to Schwartz, 17 people were on the bus, the driver was not on board during the response, and there had been phone contact with a passenger on the bus, which had stopped in Portsmouth while en route to Boston, Mass. from Portland, Maine.

As the scene unfolded, city police were joined by other local, state and federal agencies including Exeter and Hampton police, the Seacoast Emergency Response Team (SERT), a K-9 unit from Dover, the N.H. State Police bomb disposal unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), immigration and customs officials and the FBI. At approximately 12:30 p.m. an armored vehicle was called in from Rye.

Police urged people to stay away from the downtown area.

At 1 p.m. Schwartz said police had been talking with passengers on the bus but have not asked or directed anyone to remain there, and that police were not calling the scene a hostage situation. "The call (from a passenger) to us was a concern based on an observation," said the captain. "We're making the situation as safe as possible."

At approximately 1:30 p.m. passengers exited the bus with their hands up, and one man remained on the bus and appeared to be handcuffed.

SERT members gathered the passengers, who appeared to be in handcuffs, in the High-Hanover parking garage before police transported them to the Portsmouth station for interviews by local police and the FBI, according to Schwartz.

By 2:40 p.m., according to Schwartz, police had attempted to establish phone communication with the man who remained on the bus, and stressed that police were not naming anybody a suspect at that time.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., emergency officials were preparing to inspect the bus with a motorized robotic device which, according to Schwartz, did not necessarily indicate the presence of a bomb, but contained video capabilities which could be used for inspection.

Approximately 20 responders were seen exiting a large N.H. Department of Safety vehicle and boarded another bus which drove away from the scene.

State and city officials on scene included N.H. Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young, Portsmouth Mayor Tom Ferrini, and Father Angelo Pappas, the Portsmouth Fire Dept. chaplain.

Portsmouth High School sophomore Robert Swan said he received a text message about the incident, and that within ten minutes word of the event was all over the school. Swan said all after-school programs were canceled as a precaution, and that many students' facebook pages indicated they had joined onlookers downtown to see what was happening.

N.H. Governor John Lynch, at the Emergency Operations Center in Concord, said in a brief statement that the situation remains fluid and could go on for some time.

Restrictions were put on air travel in the area, which kept television helicopters from flying overhead at closer than 3,000 feet.

According to Schwartz, police had not recovered any type of device from the bus.

As indicated in the blue highlighted paragraph, even with this detailed coverage the facts are confused -- did the passengers have their hands in the air, wear handcuffs, or both, or neither. But it seems significant that the governor thinks this situation "could go on for some time".

Israeli Defense Officials Claim Syria Gave Advanced M-600 missiles to Hezbollah

Readers Number : 946

05/05/2010 Israeli defense officials said on Wednesday that Syria has delivered advanced M600 rockets to Hezbollah in Lebanon within the past year.

The M600, a Syrian copy of the Iranian Fateh-110, has a range of 300km and carries a half-ton warhead. If fired from southern Lebanon it would be capable of hitting Tel Aviv.

Latest claims of arms transfers to Lebanon follow recent accusations by Israeli President Shimon Peres that Syria Hezbollah gave long-range Scud missiles, capable of inflicting heavy damage on Israel's settlements.

Other Israeli government figures, including Defense Minister Ehud Barak, have since avoided repeating the claims and it is unclear whether Damascus could have delivered the 44-foot liquid-fueled missiles, handling which requires complex logistics, undetected.

Yet doubts over the Scuds have not masked growing fear in the Israeli defense establishment over Hezbollah's rapidly expanding arsenal. On Tuesday the Israeli army's head of intelligence research, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz, told the Knesset that the Scud transfer was the "tip of the iceberg".

"Even today Hezbollah has missiles of all ranges types, including solid-fueled rockets that have a longer range are extremely accurate," Baidatz told the Knesset's foreign affairs and security committee.

Baidatz warned that arms transfers were not sporadic but reflected long-term policy in Tehran and Damascus. "Syria and Iran carry out weapons transfers on a constant and structured basis in way that can't be described as simple smuggling - the transfers are official and well-organized," he said.

He added: "Hezbollah's long-range rockets allow them to position launchers deep within Lebanese territory and cover ranges far greater than we aware of in the past. The militant group was far stronger today than in 2006, when it fought a war with Israel," Baidatz said.

"Hezbollah in 2010 is very different to Hezbollah in 2006 in terms of military capability, which has advanced a great deal," he said, adding "Hezbollah is now regarded by the Syrians as a component of their defense establishment."

And this is why we, Muslims, must not talk about the bastard satanic state of Israel because the whole world knows that it is the illegitimate bastard terrorist of Britain and the US. What we should talk about however is how to empower and inspire the Arab people who have been terrorized and broken by the Arab dictators. And in this regard I tell anyone who is trying to harm America and or any Western nation: invest your resources in democratizing the Arab nations peacefully. Yes, the Arab dictators (violently) robbed us of our right to choose our presidential and parliamentary representatives. InchaaAllah, we will regain our right peacefully because we are Believers. Paranoid delusion never stops ..Rep Andre Carson, IN: Tea Partiers are a BIGGER threat to our Internal Security

It's un effing beeelieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevable225px-Andre_Carson_2009.jpg

Perhaps it's that they WANT us to actually BE their enemies. The funny part is, I can't actually conceive of why that's a good idea. Despite it all, am I so naive?

From Big Govt:

As our readers have already learned, Rep. Andre Carson gathered Capitol Hill reporters around him and told the tale of racial slurs and menacing crowds on the verge of hurling rocks at the congressmen. Our first few videos showed the congressmen coming out of the Cannon Office Building, walking down the steps and into Independence Avenue from various angles. None of those videos revealed the racial hatred Rep. Carson conveyed to reporters that day and none of the videos showed a mob rushing or in any way impeding the congressmen.

When Rep. Carson gathered reporters around him to spread the myth of racial slurs being hurled "fifteen times" he painted the protesters not just as racists, but as a terrorist threat. We know this, because Kerry Picket of the Washington Times recorded Rep. Carson as he explained it all to eager reporters.

KERRY PICKET (Wash. Times): Do you think the people outside are generally dangerous or no?

REP. CARSON: Oh absolutely. I worked in homeland security. I'm from intelligence, and I'll tell you, one of the largest threats to our internal security...I mean terrorism has an Islamic face, but it really comes from racial supremacist groups. (inaudible) Its the kind of thing we keep a threat assessment on record [for].

PICKET: From groups like this?

REP. CARSON: Oh absolutely.

And we can now see this two pronged message continuing in the narrative from Democratic politicians and the media: The Tea Party protests are really about white rage and they are sowing the seeds for domestic terrorism. This was the message delivered by Rep. Carson that afternoon and that is the message the media has run with.

Only problem is, we can't find any proof to back up Rep. Carson's story. And when challenged, he hides behind the legend and stature of Rep. Lewis. The constant challenge of "Are you calling Rep. John Lewis a liar?" must now be answered with "Are you calling Rep. Andre Carson beyond reproach?".

Tea partiers are indistinguishable from Aryan Nation as a threat to the individuals in the nation and the nation itself?

What nation would that be Rep Carson?

Portsmouth Neighborhood Evacuated Man On Greyhound Bus Has "Device"

Part of downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has been evacuated because of a report of a device found on a Greyhound bus making a stop between Bangor and NYC. So far I've seen 4 different reports on this, all 4 with different details. Here's what FOX has so far:

New Hampshire Police Investigate Bomb Threat on Bus
Associated Press

DEVELOPING: Police and fire officials are blocking streets in Portsmouth, N.H., around a Greyhound bus after a man reportedly threatened he had a bomb.

The state police explosives disposal unit has responded to the threat Thursday. Police evacuated residents and buildings in the area, including a Hilton hotel where an alarm sounded. A parking garage also has been closed.

The bus had left Bangor, Maine, and was en route to New York City. It was unclear whether the bus was occupied.

CNN has a bit more information on their news site:

Police said the area around Hanover, High and Market streets was closed.

News 9 reported that 17 passengers were still on the bus, but the bus driver had left the bus. There have been reports of a possible hostage situation, but Portsmouth Capt. Mike Schwartz said he wasn't sure why the passengers hadn't left the bus.

A SWAT team was also at the scene, and several businesses in the area were evacuated. The FAA also instituted a 3-mile no-fly zone around the area.

The Associated Press reported that the state explosives disposal unit and FBI were also at the scene.

Despite the heavy law enforcement presence in the area, police were set well back from the vehicle. Yellow caution tape blocked off the streets.

Gov. John Lynch's office said he went to the Emergency Operations Center in Concord and has been advised of the situation.

More Details...

Sources told WBZ's Karen Anderson that a man on the bus was talking on a cell phone in what sounded like Arabic and English.

A woman apparently heard him say something about "a bomb is on the bus."

The woman told the bus driver, who then pretended there was a mechanical problem with the bus and pulled over in Portsmouth. The driver then called police.

Police have closed streets and evacuated businesses, including a Hilton hotel in the busy downtown area.

Two SWAT teams and the FBI are also on the scene.

This could be serious -- or the guy could have been saying "There's a bum on the bus" and was misheard. (It's happened before.) I am hoping this does not turn out to be a hostage situation.

UPDATED: Apparently the passengers are now off the bus. This WMUR site seems to have the most up-to-date coverage.

The MSM Non-Story from Tennessee

Between the Times Square bomber and the Gulf Spill you haven't heard much in the MSM about the floods in Tennessee.

Like Revere said in an earlier post "There is no socialist political points to be gained from what happened to Nashville. No Big Business to blame. So the Obummah Administration can afford to waste this particular crisis."

Of course if Bushitler were president they'd be screaming to high heaven. But no matter.

The weekend storms killed 28 people and did their best to swallow Nashville.

The Grand Ole Opry House was flooded and will be many months until it can reopen. SO for now, it has moved weekend performances back home, to The Ryman Auditorium.

Damage estimates are one Billion dollars, as of now.

Malkin has a list of places you can help if so inclined.

Terrorist in Mumbai sentenced to hang

India has just done some justice in the horrifying case of the murders that took place in Mumbai in late 2008:
The lone surviving terrorist in the November 2008 Mumbai massacre was sentenced to death on Thursday by an Indian judge for his role in the massive terrorist attack, one of the worst in the history of India.

During the three-day ordeal, 166 people were slaughtered and more than 300 were wounded. Six of the dead were Jews who were at the Nariman Jewish Center Chabad House, a target specifically chosen by terrorists. (Photos of the scene may be viewed by clicking here. WARNING: The photos are graphic, and reveal in detail the violence at the scene. Israel news photo, below: ZAKA)

Among the victims were the center's directors, Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries Rabbi Gabriel and Mrs. Rivka Holtzberg. The couple's two-year-old son Moishe was rescued by his Indian nanny, Sandra, who hid in a closet for hours until the terrorists had moved into another part of the building, then gathered the toddler in her arms and fled. Moishe and his nanny were subsequently brought by his maternal grandparents back to Israel, where Rivka herself was born and raised.

Israel National News produced a special tribute to honor the Holtzbergs and their guests. The page may be accessed by clicking here.

Justice M.L. Tahaliyani handed down his verdict three days after the surviving terrorist, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, was convicted of murder and waging war against the nation. Death sentences in India are carried out by hanging. Special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said Wednesday that the execution could be delayed by up to a year.
The sooner the noose tightens around the vile filth's neck, the better.

I hoid tings - Politico:Rove, GOP plot vast network to reclaim power

rove1221786420.jpgThe Republican Party's best-connected political operatives have quietly built a massive fundraising, organizing and advertising machine based on the model assembled by Democrats early in the decade, and with the same ambitious goal -- to recapture Congress and the White House.

The new groups could give Republicans and their allies a powerful campaign apparatus separate from the Republican National Committee. Karl Rove, political architect of the Bush presidency, and Ed Gillespie, former Republican Party chairman, are the most prominent forces behind what is, in effect, a network of five overlapping groups, three of which were started in the past few months.

The operating assumption of Rove, Gillespie and the other organizers is that despite the historical dominance of Republican fundraising and organizing, the GOP has been outmaneuvered by Democrats and their allies in recent years, and it is time to strike back.

"Where they have a chess piece on the board, we need a chess piece on the board," said Gillespie, who is involved in all five groups in roles ranging from chairman to informal adviser. "Where they have a queen, we shouldn't have three pawns."

The network, which doesn't have a name, attempts to replicate the Democracy Alliance, an umbrella group -- founded in 2005 and funded by George Soros and other billionaires -- and to borrow tactics from liberal groups established to help Democrats regain power after eight years of the Bush administration.

I have a name: VWRC

Cmon Politico .... organizing for gain is a secret conspiracy?

What would one make of SEIU? Acorn? Center for American Progress? Tides Foundation?

Ironically James Carville sounds more objective about this than the Politico editors who gave slant to this.

Democratic strategist James Carville said the GOP's extra-party machine is emerging now largely for the same reason the Democrats' did.

"There's nothing that makes people hungry like being out of power and out of government," Carville said. "When you're in government, all of the big operatives have good jobs or they're working for some lobbying firm and making $3 million a year, while the other guys don't have anything to do
