Davos proposal: require "licenses" for internet use

From Ace of Spades:

Apparently, this forward thinking, visionary, and very prudent measure was put forth by Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft.

...A “driver’s licence” for the web would be Christmas every day of the year for the control freaks....

...Without the internet, the completely fictitious global warming “consensus” would still be unchallenged, state power massively enlarged, $54 trillion of Western taxpayers’ money flooding into the coffers of carbon companies and people’s lives made miserable by totalitarian restrictions imposed to counter a non-existent threat...

Its not clear at present what the pass/fail criteria for license testing would be, who would administer them, what their duration would be, and if retesting upon renewal would be required, or if fees would be collected.

One interesting comment

On another Jihadist site, a visitor questions security involving 3D scanners at British airports asking: “Can I refuse [to pass through] for religious reasons?”

Family feud: Nancy Pelosi at odds with President Obama

From Politico:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s increasingly public disagreements with President Barack Obama are a reflection of something deeper: the seething resentment some Democrats feel over what they see as cavalier treatment from a wounded White House.

For months, the California lawmaker has been pushing Obama hard in private while praising him in public. But now she’s being more open in her criticism, in part because she feels the White House was wrong — in the wake of the Democrats’ loss in Massachusetts — to push the Senate health care bill on the House when she knew there was no way it would pass.

Earlier this month, Pelosi criticized the president’s State of the Union call to exempt defense spending from a budget freeze. And in a White House meeting with leaders of both parties this week, she questioned the effectiveness of his plan to give small businesses tax breaks to hire workers.

“What you’re seeing now in public has been building in private,” said a top House Democratic official. “House members did their work — they did everything the president asked of them. And it gets stuck in the Senate. Or the Senate screws it up.”

Though Pelosi and other House Democrats have made it clear that they’re angry with the Senate, they’re also frustrated with the president, upset that he hasn’t come to terms with the problems of getting legislation through the upper chamber — or done enough to overcome them.

“He wants a jobs bill, we get a jobs bill,” the official said. “He wanted health care, we got health care. Then the answer is, ‘You just need to twist enough arms to pass the Senate bill.’ You can twist arms if you’ve got a handful of them to twist. You can’t twist over 100 arms. There needs to be some reality check there.”

“Both ends of the Capitol — the House and the Senate — are starting to wonder if they’re on their own,” the official continued. “You have a lot of frustration there. And the White House’s reaction to all of that seems to be, ‘Run against Congress’ — which, as you can imagine, doesn’t go over very well with House members. The White House reaction seems to be, ‘Position ourselves against Congress.’”

From the Astute Bloggers:

However, this new window on Obama’s youth and early political thinking demonstrates how little is known about the background of America’s 44th president.

Dr. John C. Drew, a grant writing consultant in Laguna Niguel, Calif., tells Newsmax he met Obama in 1980 when Obama was a sophomore at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Drew had just graduated from Occidental and was attending graduate school at Cornell University.

Drew’s then girlfriend, Caroline Boss — now Grauman-Boss — knew Obama because she shared classes with him at Occidental.

During Christmas break, Drew says he was at Grauman-Boss’ home in Palo Alto when Obama came over with Mohammed Hasan Chandoo, his roommate from Pakistan.

“Barack and Hasan showed up at the house in a BMW, and then we went to a restaurant together,” Drew says. “We had a nice meal, and then we came back to the house and smoked cigarettes and drank and argued politics.”
For the next several hours, they discussed Marxism.

“He was arguing a straightforward Marxist-Leninist class-struggle point of view, which anticipated that there would be a revolution of the working class, led by revolutionaries, who would overthrow the capitalist system and institute a new socialist government that would redistribute the wealth,” says Drew, who says he himself was then a Marxist.

... In 1981, Obama left Occidental to attend Columbia University. During that year, Obama spent “about three weeks” visiting Chandoo and his family in Karachi, Pakistan, according to the account of Obama spokesman Bill Burton during the campaign.

Chandoo is now a financial consultant who was formerly a broker at Oppenheimer & Co. He has contributed to Obama’s campaign and helped raise more than $100,000 for him as a bundler.

“If that’s what John Drew said, that’s what he said,” Chandoo commented. “I can’t remember Obama ever talking like that. It sounds a bit absurd to me, but that’s my opinion. I can’t remember him ever expressing an interest in being a Marxist.”

... Chandoo said he has not seen nor talked with him since before Obama became a U.S. senator. However, under “community member,” the White House listed Chandoo as a guest at Obama’s Ramadan dinner last fall.

When asked about that, Chandoo acknowledged from his home in Armonk, N.Y., that he attended the dinner. Despite the fact that fewer than 70 people were in attendance, Chandoo added, “I did not get a chance to see the boss.” He then said he shook hands with Obama in a receiving line.

Chandoo said he has been in touch with Caroline Grauman-Boss over the years. She did not respond to a request for comment.

Muslims protest in Norway over another Mohammed cartoon

From Watcher:

(Oslo) Around 3,000 people protested on the streets of Oslo in which to bitch about how the newspaper 'Dagbladet' published a news story (with a picture) about how the Facebook page of the Norwegian secret service included a link to a picture of Mohammed as a Pig. Initially (as in Denmark), nothing happened, then the local Pakistani taxi drivers held a go slow (well, actually two) in which to publicize their disgust.

Once 'the local inflame the faithful squad' from the local mosque had carried out their mission, a protest was held on the streets of Oslo in which to express to the local populace 'that you don't mess with Mohammad'. This message was reinforced by how the organizers ensured they all had a mass pray to Allah in the middle of the city.

Yup, nothing like offending the native population by shoving your religion down their throats. Which, funny enough, one of the organizers (Mohyelden Mohammed) did by saying:
"That terrorist acts may take place in Norway about Muslims not being respected. Today we are even more wounded. When will the Norwegian authorities wake up? Perhaps not until we get a 11 September (New York) or 7 July (London). This is not a threat. It is a warning."
But you know what really gets my goat? It is that currently in Norway there is a huge manhunt for a missing Muslim woman with the main culprit being a Pakistani taxi driver.

So let's put this in context: a cartoon of a pig called Mohammad (a pedophile of a mass murderer who died over 1600 years ago) can bring 3,000 people onto the streets in which to protest. Yet the actual ongoing disappearance of a Muslim woman by a Muslim man in the very same city entails silence.

And Muslims dare demand I respect them? Sorry, Muslims, but I was born into the death cult that you belong to, and even at the tender age of 10 I knew it wasn't for me.

Atlas Action Alert: Support Journalists Under attack by Muslim Brotherhood ISNA

From Atlas Shrugs:

The ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) is trying to stop the First Amendment – imposing Shariah Blasphemy laws. No surprise – the Fiqh Council that is opposing full body scanners is an ISNA creation as well.

BTW, the Louay Safi article in the Dallas Morning News (it’s below with link - about the Fort Hood teaching gig Safi had there) didn’t even go into his approval of execution for apostates, as detailed in his book Peace and the Limits of War. They don’t realize how bad this guy actually is. Andy McCarthy wrote:

the Defense Department has brought Louay Safi to Fort Hood as an instructor, and that he has been lecturing on Islam to our troops in Fort Hood who are about to deploy to Afghanistan. Safi is a top official of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and served as research director at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).

Worse, last evening, Safi was apparently permitted to present a check (evidently on behalf of ISNA) to the families of the victims of last month's Fort Hood massacre. [...]

ISNA was identified by the Justice Department at the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing conspiracy trial as an unindicted co-conspirator. The defendants at that trial were convicted of funding Hamas to the tune of millions of dollars. This should have come as no surprise. ISNA is the Muslim Brotherhood's umbrella entity for Islamist organizations in the United States. It was established in 1981 to enable Muslims in North America "to adopt Islam as a complete way of life" — i.e., to further the Brotherhood's strategy of establishing enclaves in the West that are governed by sharia. As I detailed in an essay for the April 20 edition of NR, the Brotherhood's rally-cry remains, to this day, "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Koran is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” The Brotherhood's spiritual guide, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who issued a fatwa in 2004 calling for attacks on American forces in Afghanistan, openly declares that Islam will "conquer America" and "conquer Europe."

Please write in support of Brooks Egerton. Islamic supremacism is trying to silence anyone who exposes who and what they are. Un-indicted co-conspirator and front for the Muslim Brotherhood (as evidenced and proven in the Holy Land Trial) ISNA is demanding an apology. These hate sponsors live under our law, not Islamic law. Tell Maud Beelman, the DMN News Editor Mbeelman@dallasnews.com 214-977-8456 and Brooks Egerton, staff writer begerton@dallasnews.com 214-977-7622 that no apology is necessary. Thank them for doing their job investigating the jihadi who spoke at Fort Hood after the attack.

Please contact the Dallas News politely and kindly. We must show support. Every basic American freedom is under attack by these Islamic groups intimidating good people to shut up as they further advance their Islamic goals.

Obama Is Making Plans To Use Executive Power To Advance His Agenda...

From Weasel Zippers:

Here's where Comrade Obama will show his true Marxist thug colors...

WASHINGTON — With much of his legislative agenda stalled in Congress, President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities.

Mr. Obama has not given up hope of progress on Capitol Hill, aides said, and has scheduled a session with Republican leaders on health care later this month. But in the aftermath of a special election in Massachusetts that cost Democrats unilateral control of the Senate, the White House is getting ready to act on its own in the face of partisan gridlock heading into the midterm campaign.

We are reviewing a list of presidential executive orders and directives to get the job done across a front of issues,” said Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff.

Any president has vast authority to influence policy even without legislation, through executive orders, agency rule-making and administrative fiat. And Mr. Obama’s success this week in pressuring the Senate to confirm 27 nominations by threatening to use his recess appointment power demonstrated that executive authority can also be leveraged to force action by Congress.

Mr. Obama has already decided to create a bipartisan budget commission under his own authority after Congress refused to do so. His administration has signaled that it plans to use its discretion to soften enforcement of the ban on openly gay men and lesbians serving in the military, even as Congress considers repealing the law. And the Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with possible regulations on heat-trapping gases blamed for climate change, while a bill to cap such emissions languishes in the Senate.

In an effort to demonstrate forward momentum, the White House is also drawing more attention to the sorts of actions taken regularly by cabinet departments without much fanfare. The White House heavily promoted an export initiative announced by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke last week and nearly $1 billion in health care technology grants announced on Friday by Kathleen Sebelius, the health and human services secretary, and Hilda L. Solis, the labor secretary.

White House officials said the increased focus on executive authority reflected a natural evolution from the first year to the second year of any presidency.

The challenges we had to address in 2009 ensured that the center of action would be in Congress,” said Dan Pfeiffer, the White House communications director. “In 2010, executive actions will also play a key role in advancing the agenda.”

America On The Rise

From New Geography:

For much of the past decade, "declinism" – the notion that America is heading toward a deadly denouement – has largely been a philosophy of the left. But more recently, particularly in the wake of Barack Obama's election, conservatives have begun joining the chorus, albeit singing a somewhat different variation on the same tune.

In a recent column in The Washington Post George Will illustrates this conservative change of heart. Looking over the next few decades Will sees an aging, obsolescent America in retreat to a young and aggressive China. "America's destiny is demographic, and therefore is inexorable and predictable," he suggests, pointing to predictions by Nobel Prize economist Robert Fogel that China's economy will be three times larger than that of the U.S. by 2040.

Will may be one of America's great columnists, but he – like his equally distinguished liberal counterpart Thomas Friedman – may be falling prey to a current fashion for sinophilia. It is a sign of the times that conservatives as well as liberals often underestimate the Middle Kingdom's problems – in addition to America's relative strengths.

Rarely mentioned in such analyses is China's own aging problem. The population of the People's Republic will be considerably older than the U.S.' by 2050. It also has far more boys than girls – a rather insidious problem. Among the younger generation there are already an estimated 24 million more men of marrying age than women. This is not going to end well – except perhaps for investors in prostitution and pornography.

In the longer term demographic trends actually place the U.S. in a relatively strong position. By the end of the first half of the 21st century, the American population aged 15 to 64 – essentially your economically active cohort – are projected to grow by 42%; China's will shrink by 10%. Comparisons with other competitors are even larger, with the E.U. shrinking by 25%, Korea by 30% and Japan by a remarkable 44%.

The Japanese experience best illustrates how wrong punditry can be. Back in the 1970s and 1980s it was commonplace for pundits – particularly on the left – to predict Japan's ascendance into world leadership. At the time distinguished commentators like George Lodge, Lester Thurow and Robert Reich all pointed to Europe and Japan as the nations slated to beat the U.S. on the economic battlefield. "Japan is replacing America as the world's strongest economic power," one prominent scholar told a Joint Economic Committee of Congress in 1986. "It is in everyone's interest that the transition goes smoothly."

This was not unusual or even shocking at the time. It followed a grand tradition of declinism that over the past 70 years has declared America ill-suited to compete with everyone from fascist Germany and Italy to the Soviet Union. By the mid-1950s a majority were convinced that we were losing the Cold War. In the 1980s Harvard's John Kenneth Galbraith thought the Soviet model successful enough that the two systems would eventually "converge."

We all know how that convergence worked out. Even the Chinese abandoned the Stalinist economic model so admired by many American intellectuals once Mao was safely a-moldering in his grave. Outside of the European and American academe, the only strong advocates of state socialism can be found in such economic basket cases as Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela.

So given this history, why the current rise in declinism? Certainly it's a view many in the wider public share. Most Americans fear their children will not be able to live as well as they have. A plurality think China will be the world's most powerful country in 20 years.

To be sure there are some good reasons for pessimism. The huge deficits, high unemployment, our leakage of industry not only to China but other developing countries are all worrisome trends. Yet if the negative case is easier to make, it does not stand historical scrutiny.

Let's just go back to what we learned during the "Japan is taking over the world" phase during the 1970s and 1980s. At the time Dai Nippon's rapid economic expansion was considered inexorable. Yet history is not a straight-line project. Most countries go through phases of expansion and decline. The factors driving success often include a well-conceived economic strategy, an expanding workforce and a sense of national élan.

In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Japan – like China today – possessed all those things. Its bureaucratic state had targeted key industries like automobiles and electronics, and its large, well-educated baby boom population was hitting the workforce. There was an unmistakable sense of pride in the country's rapid achievements after the devastation of the Second World War.

Yet even then, as the Economist's Bill Emmot noted in his 1989 book The Sun Also Sets, things were not so pretty once you looked a little closer. In the mid-1980s I traveled extensively in Japan and, with the help of a young Japanese-American scholar, Yoriko Kishimoto, interviewed demographers and economists who predicted Japan's eventual decline.

By then, the rapid drop in Japan's birthrate and its rapid aging was already clearly predictable. But even more persuasive were hours spent with the new generation of Japanese – the equivalent of America's Xers – who seemed alienated from the self-abnegating, work-obsessed culture of their parents. By the late 1980s it was clear that the shinjinrui ("the new race") seemed more interested in design, culture and just having fun than their forebears. They seemed destined not to become another generation of economic samurai.

At the time though, the very strategies so critical to Japan's growth – particularly a focus on high-end manufacturing – proved highly susceptible to competitors from lower-cost countries: first Taiwan, Korea and Singapore, and later China, Vietnam and more recently India. Like America and Britain before it, Japan exported its unique genius abroad. Now many companies, including American ones, have narrowed the technological gap with Japan.

Today Japan, like the E.U., lacks the youthful population needed to recover its mojo. It likely will emerge as a kind of mega-Switzerland, Sweden or Denmark – renowned for its safety and precision. Its workforce will have to be ultra-productive to finance the robots it will need to care for its vast elderly population.

Will China follow a similar trajectory in the next few decades? Countries infrequently follow precisely the same script as another. Japan was always hemmed in by its position as a small island country with very minimal resources. Its demographic crisis will make things worse. In contrast, China, for the next few decades, certainly won't suffer a shortage of economically productive workers

But it could face greater problems. The kind of low-wage manufacturing strategy that has generated China's success – as occurred with Japan – is already leading to a backlash across much of the world. China's very girth projects a more terrifying prospect than little Japan. At some point China will either have to locate much of its industrial base closer to its customers, as Japan has done, or lose its markets.

More important still are massive internal problems. Japan, for all its many imperfections, was and remains a stable, functioning democracy, open to the free flow of information. China is a fundamentally unstable autocracy, led from above, and one that seeks to control information – as evidenced in its conflict with Google – in an age where the free flow of information constitutes an essential part of economic progress.

China's social problems will be further exacerbated by a huge, largely ill-educated restive peasant class still living in poverty. Of course America too has many problems – with stunted upward mobility, the skill levels of its workforce, its fiscal situation. But the U.S., as the Japanese scholar Fuji Kamiya once noted, possesses sokojikara, a self-renewing capacity unmatched by any country.

As we enter the next few decades of the new millennium, I would bet on a more youthful, still resource-rich and democratic America to maintain its preeminence even in a world where economic power continues to shift from its historic home in Europe to Asia.

TSA to Clear 10000 Workers for Access to Classified Intelligence

Wanna bet this TSA worker gets access to classified intel?

Ain't nothing wrong with that, huh?

The Transportation Security Administration plans to clear 10,000 workers for access to secret intelligence, Fox News has learned. Staff at the Transportation ...

UPDATE - What's wrong with TSA clearing 10k workers for access to classified intelligence? Let's start with asking who/how are these 10k TSA workers going to be vetted? Why, should I ask? Here's a few reminders:

* Newark Airport's Security Cameras Were Broken - Airport Owns the Cameras but Says the TSA is Supposed to Report Them Broken

* TSA worker moved to desk duty after being caught sleeping on the job at LaGuardia

* Arrested TSA worker asked girl to be his ’sex slave’

*TSA worker loses job after prank on passenger

*TSA forces Richmond airport to issue access badge to convicted felon

*TSA Supervisors ridicule women, gays and minorities on white board

*Recall that it was the same boneheads who
leaked TSA Security Manual to internet?

*And recall the chief bonehead, Napolitano, met with ethnic leaders to formulate security policy in a more sensitive manner

Forgive me if I get concerned that 'classified intell' is going to be shared with these numbskulls.

Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary to discuss aviation security with Mexico
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano will travel to Mexico City to discuss security tactics in global aviation, the DHS announced Friday.

Secretary Napolitano will meet her North, Central and South American and Caribbean counterparts and officials from the International Civil Aviation Organization after Mexico’s Interior Secretary Fernando Francisco Gomez Mont’s invitation.

Her trip is scheduled to take place next week, from February 16 to 18 and is the second, after visiting Toledo, Spain, in a series of major international meetings focused on the development of consensus on strengthening global aviation security, categorizing specific procedures that nations can take individually and collectively to protect all passengers.

Secretary Napolitano has shown constant commitment to reinforcing coordination with international colleagues to implement stronger and more effective measures to protect the integrity of the global aviation network.

In Mexico, she also plans to discuss topics regarding transnational threats and streamlining legitimate travel and trade with top Mexican officials.

After Secretary Napolitano’s trip to Spain, the United States and the European Union declared a joint effort to strengthen the international civil aviation system through enhanced information collection and sharing, cooperation on technological development, and modernized aviation security standards.

Federal security chief at LAX unexpectedly steps down

". . .The resignation follows the arrest in January of three TSA employees in connection with an investigation into counterfeited parking passes at an LAX employee parking lot. During the probe, investigators found a videotape that allegedly showed TSA employees using illegal drugs. . . ."

TSA officials said this week they expect to issue a revised plan this fall that will significantly reduce from 15,000 the number of U.S.-registered general-aviation aircraft subjected to tougher rules. Also, instead of mandating that all passengers aboard private planes be checked against terrorist watch lists, name checks in many cases could be left to the discretion of pilots, they said. link
In essence, under the guidance of Napolitano, Private Jet Travel Will Remain TSA-Free and LAX, a documented terrorist target, remains without a "security director" .

“It’s compounded by the fact that TSA has been without a leader on the national level for 13 months.”McClain said.

Global Warming - The Science Is Settled By Placing Fewer And Fewer Weather Stations In Cooler Places Around The Globe

From Fox News:
A new report points to a sharp reduction of weather stations by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in cooler locations around the world since 1990. Could that be why global temps have seen a steady rise over the last 20 years?

The global warming scandal keeps getting worse. Revelations over the few weeks show that many important assertions in the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were based on misquotes and false claims from environmental groups, not on published academic research as it was originally presented. This is on top of the recent mess regarding data, where the three most relied-on data series used by the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2007 assessment report still have not been released. Other data simply never seem to have existed or cannot be provided to other scientists.

But probably the most damaging report has come from Joseph D’Aleo, the first Director of Meteorology and co-founder of the Weather Channel, and Anthony Watts, a meteorologist and founder of SurfaceStations.org.

In a January 29 report, they find that starting in 1990, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) began systematically eliminating climate measuring stations in cooler locations around the world. Yes, that's right. They began eliminating stations that tended to record cooler temperatures and drove up the average measured temperature. The eliminated stations had been in higher latitudes and altitudes, inland areas away from the sea, as well as more rural locations. The drop in the number of weather stations was dramatic, declining from more than 6,000 stations to fewer than 1,500.

GOP Demands Reid & Pelosi Disavow Healthcare Deals

Human Events:

by Connie Hair
Posted 02/12/2010 ET
Updated 02/12/2010 ET

House Republicans turned up the heat today on Democrats over the President’s proposed February 25 health care summit. Reports have surfaced that while Obama is trying to create an appearance of “bipartisanship” in summoning leaders to the White House to try to breathe life into health care, Democrats in Congress are already working out a deal behind closed doors that they will push through using the budget reconciliation process.

House Republican Leader John Boehner, Republican Whip Eric Cantor and House Republican Caucus Chairman sent a letter today to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asking them to confirm or deny the reports of backroom deals and reconciliation hijinks:

February 12, 2010

The Honorable Harry Reid
Majority Leader
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510

The Honorable Nancy Pelosi
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Mr. Leader and Madam Speaker:

As you know, we welcomed the President’s call for bipartisan health care talks. The American people have made it clear that they strongly oppose the comprehensive health care bills you have passed and want them shelved in favor of a step-by-step approach focused on lowering costs for families and small businesses.

Given the President’s statement that he is “open to any ideas” at the proposed summit, it is our responsibility as congressional leaders to see that the views of our Members and our constituents will be heard in good faith. The existence of any kind of backroom deal among the White House and Democratic Leaders would certainly make a mockery of the President’s stated desire to have a “bipartisan” and “transparent” dialogue on this issue.

To that end, we were taken aback by a report in the Tuesday, February 9 edition of Politico stating that President Obama “hopes to walk into the Feb. 25 summit with an agreement in hand between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on a final Democratic bill, so they can move ahead with a reform package after the sit-down.”

We were further taken aback by a report in CongressDaily later the same day in which an aide to the Speaker, appearing at the National Health Policy Conference, described the legislative “trick” Democratic Leadership intends to use to jam through a “pre-negotiated” health care bill. It has also been reported that other congressional aides present concurred with this assessment.

Additionally, the Christian Science Monitor reported today that special interest groups are calling for Democrats to finalize a deal in advance of the proposed summit.

To ensure we can move forward in good faith, we ask that you publicly disavow these reports and assure the American people that Democratic Leadership is not putting together any kind of backroom deal or plotting any kind of legislative trickery to pass it. Your response will help clarify whether Democratic Leadership is serious about genuine bipartisan negotiations and whether the proposed summit will be a truly open forum or merely an intramural exercise.

We appreciate your immediate response in this matter and look forward to further efforts to foster bipartisan cooperation.

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA)
House Republican Caucus Chairman Mike Pence (R-IN

Unreal: Obama’s National Defense Review Ignores Iran and Islam in Favor of...Climate Change!...

The man must be removed from office. If the Democrats do not stand up and demand that this man step down, they will all begin losing their seats in Congress come November.

This is borderline treason. Think about it, our Commander-in-Chief is ignoring the enemy our military is fighting on multiple fronts around the world. Ignoring the enemy absolutely. Not even one mention of Jihadists.

From Weasel Zippers:

(Telegraph)- Under American law, every four years the US Defence Department must present to Congress a comprehensive review of the security threats and challenges to America. The security picture presented in the review provides the justification for planning and creating the appropriate military forces and capabilities.

The Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) is supposed to be a non-partisan and objective strategic document – free of partisan politics. After all, the duty to protect the nation and its citizens is supposed to take a higher priority than subsidies to labour unions, or hand-outs to party loyalists.

Last week the Defence Department released the 2010 QDR. It is a remarkable document. As guidance for American strategy it might even take a historical place alongside some of the great assessments of the Bush administration—such as the 2003 Congressional testimony by Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz that a war in Iraq could be waged at little cost.

The 128-page Defence Review says some important things. It outlines the problems with maintaining the US military’s technological lead over potential adversaries. It discusses the need to counter terrorism. The threat to Western cyber systems is noted. The proliferation of Russian high-tech anti-aircraft missiles around the world is noted as a problem.

However, it’s not what is in the document that surprises the reader – it’s what was left out. The presence of two elephants in their living room apparently escaped the notice of American’s top civilian and military leaders. Islamic radicalism does not receive any mention whatsoever in the American Defence Review and the threat posed by a nuclear Iran is mentioned in only one general sentence at the end of a document (page 101).

To put this lack of discussion in proportion, contrast this non-discussion with other security issues mentioned in the document. For example, the security effects of climate change are highlighted and discussed in depth in eight pages of the document.

I would not have thought it possible that one could publish a book-length assessment of America’s security challenges and responses and NOT address the problem of Islamic radicalism or the Iranian bomb – but that’s just what Defence Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mullen have done.

From this one can draw one of two possible conclusions: these men are really, really stupid (not very likely), or they have deliberately minimised the current security threats to please the Obama administration and support the President’s desire to cut defence spending. The smart money is on the latter explanation.

Airport Body Scanners Haram?

Citing the Koran and apparently seeking a religious exemption,
...[The Fiqh Council of North America and the Council on Islamic Relations]...say that body scanners are un-Islamic. Very well. There may be plenty of reasons to oppose body scanners, but when they put it this way, they suggest they'd be just fine with some sort of exemption from such scanning for Muslims. That would mean that the one group that would be subjected to lighter airport security checks than any other group would be...Muslims.
Read the rest HERE.

Talk about irony! It is Moslems that have made all these security measures necessary in the first place!

The big question: Will the West bow to yet another manifestation of Islamic supremacism?

Charlie Wilson, Former Congressman, Dies at 76

He fought the Soviet Red Army, and won.

Charles Nesbitt Wilson (June 1, 1933 – February 10, 2010) was a former United States Navy officer and a 12-term Democratic United States Representative from the 2nd Congressional District in Texas.

He was best known for leading Congress into supporting Operation Cyclone, the largest-ever CIA covert operation, which supplied military equipment, including anti-aircraft weapons such as Stinger antiaircraft missiles, and paramilitary officers from their Special Activities Division to the Afghan Mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. His activities were the subject of the non-fiction book Charlie Wilson's War and film of the same name, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
Good Time Charlie

Wilson was known in Washington as "Good Time Charlie" for his reputation as a hard-drinking womanizer. He once called former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder "Babycakes," and tried to take a beauty queen with him on a government trip to Afghanistan.

In a 2003 interview, Charlie Wilson said he wasn't worried about details of his wild side being portrayed: "I would remind you that I was not married at the time. I'm in a different place than I was in at the time and I don't apologize about that,"

Operation Cyclone

In 1980, Wilson read an Associated Press dispatch on the congressional wires describing the refugees fleeing Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. The Communist Democratic Republic of Afghanistan had taken over power during the Afghan Civil War and asked the Soviet Union to help suppress resistance from the Mujahideen. According to biographer George Crile III, Wilson called the staff of the House Appropriations Committee dealing with "black appropriations" and requested a two-fold appropriation increase for Afghanistan. Because Wilson had just been named to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense (which is responsible for funding CIA operations), his request went through.

In 1983, Wilson won an additional $40 million, $17 million of which was allocated for anti-aircraft weapons to shoot down Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopters. The next year, CIA officer Gust Avrakotos directly approached Wilson – breaking the CIA's policy against lobbying Congress for money – asking Wilson for $50 million more. Wilson agreed and convinced Congress, saying, "The U.S. had nothing whatsoever to do with these people's decision to fight ... but we'll be damned by history if we let them fight with stones." Later, Wilson succeeded in giving the Afghans $300 million of unused Pentagon money before the end of the fiscal year. Thus, Wilson directly influenced the level of U.S. support for the Afghan Mujahideen. Wilson has said that the covert operation succeeded because "there was no partisanship or damaging leaks." Michael Pillsbury, a senior Pentagon official, used Wilson's funding to provide Stinger missiles to the Afghan resistance in a controversial decision.

Texas socialite and businesswoman Joanne Herring played a significant role in helping the Afghan resistance fighters get support and military equipment from the U.S. government. She persuaded Wilson to visit the Pakistani leadership, and after meeting with them he was taken to a major Pakistan-based Afghan refugee camp so he could see for himself the atrocities committed by the Soviets against the Afghan people. About that visit, Wilson later said:

"That was the experience that will always be seared in my memory, was going through those hospitals and seeing, especially those children with their hands blown off from the mines that the Soviets were dropping from their helicopters. That was perhaps the deciding thing . . . and it made a huge difference for the next 10 or 12 years of my life because I left those hospitals determined, as long as I had a breath in my body and was a member in Congress, that I was going to do what I could to make the Soviets pay for what they were doing!"

For his efforts, Wilson was presented with the Honored Colleague Award by the CIA. He is the first civilian to receive the award. However, Wilson's role remains controversial because most of the aid was supplied to Islamist hardliner Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, now a senior Taliban leader and a supporter of al-Qaeda.

Early Start in Politics

Wilson first entered politics at age 13 by running a campaign against his next-door neighbor, city council incumbent Charles Hazard. When Wilson's dog entered Hazard's yard, Hazard retaliated by mixing crushed glass into the dog's food, causing fatal internal bleeding. Being a farmer's son, Wilson was able to get a driving permit at age 13, which enabled him to drive 96 voters, mainly black citizens from poor neighborhoods, to the polls. As they left the car, he told each of them that he didn't want to influence their vote, but that the incumbent Hazard had purposely killed his dog. After Hazard was defeated by a margin of 16 votes, Wilson went to his house to tell him he shouldn't poison any more dogs. Wilson cited this as "the day (he) fell in love with America."

After successfully supporting the Mujahedeen to a victory that helped speed the downfall of the Soviet Union - Wilson was unable to keep the money flowing after the Soviets left. Afghanistan plunged into chaos, creating an opening eventually filled by the Taliban, who hosted the al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

After the September 11 attacks, and the subsequent U.S.invasion of the country it had once helped liberate, Wilson said, "People like me didn't fulfill our responsibilities once the war was over. We allowed this vacuum to occur in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which enraged a lot of people. That was as much my fault as it was a lot of others."

Rarely does a single person's achievements have such a profound impact. Honor him.

Truth and Terror

Human Events:

by Oliver North
Posted 02/12/2010 ET

The Obama administration has a near flawless record on the economy. When Mr. Obama or one of his senior minions, like Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, launch a rhetorical offensive on protecting us from the perils of capitalism, we have learned to expect an instant stock market nose dive followed by higher unemployment rates and talk of greater government spending, debt and higher taxes. That’s bad enough, but now the O-Team is talking about protecting us from terrorism.

Last Sunday, in a surreal “warm-up” for the Super Bowl, Mr. Obama told CBS News’ Katie Couric that putting 9-11-01 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed on trial in New York City was a good idea. With a completely straight face he claimed, “we’re not handling any of these cases any different than the Bush administration handled them all through 9-11.” It isn’t entirely clear what “all through 9-11” means, perhaps because this stunningly disingenuous comment was delivered without the aid of a Tele-prompter. This is, after all, the man who made “closing Gitmo” his first official act as President. Evidently, the Obama spin cycle has no limits -- and there is no setting for “truth.”

Set aside trying to imagine President George W. Bush putting KSM on trial in the Big Apple, just blocks from where 3,000 perished in the Twin Towers. And don’t even think about how Mr. Obama could apologize to people in dozens more countries for America in general and his predecessor in particular -- only to now embrace “Bush era practices.” It is alarming how facile Mr. Obama and the rest of the O-Team have become at dissembling about the real risks confronting us -- and what we need to do to protect ourselves.

Last week, with the federal government shut-down by a snowstorm, “non-essential personnel” were told to stay home. One of the apparently “essential personnel” was John O. Brennan -- Mr. Obama’s “terrorism czar” whose official designation is worthy of a Soviet Politburo title: “Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism.” On Tuesday, Mr. Brennan took to the op-ed page of USA Today to spin the O-Team decision to treat Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, the Christmas Day underpants bomber, as a common criminal instead of as an enemy combatant.

In his column, Mr. Brennan baldly claims, “Immediately after the failed Christmas Day attack, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab was thoroughly interrogated and provided important information. Senior counterterrorism officials from the White House, the intelligence community and the military were all actively discussing this case before he was Mirandized (sic) and supported the decision to charge him in criminal court.” He then declares, “The most important breakthrough occurred after Abdul Mutallab was read his rights,” as though all this occurred within hours of the arrest.

Unfortunately, these assertions are flatly refuted by the sworn testimony of the CIA Director, the Director of National Intelligence, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, and the Director of the FBI. We now know that the initial questioning lasted less than an hour before Abdul Mutallab was wheeled into surgery. We also know the “important breakthrough” which Mr. Brennan gushes about, occurred six weeks after the failed attack -- and only after the terrorist’s family urged him to cooperate with U.S. authorities. In short, somebody isn’t telling the truth.

Worse still, Mr. Brennan’s solution for handling the problem of radical Islamic terrorists dying to kill as many of us as possible, is to tell us all to sit down and shut up. “We need no lectures about the fact that this nation is at war,” Mr. Brennan expounds. Then, in case his point was somehow missed, he adds, “Politically motivated criticism and unfounded fear-mongering only serve the goals of al Qaeda.” In other words, if we have a major terror attack in the next three to six months -- as CIA Director Leon Panetta says is likely -- it’s our fault for not just going along with the O-Team agenda.

Following this train of “thought” -- it will be our fault when the theocrats ruling Tehran build and use a nuclear weapon. It would not have happened had we just sat mute, like Mr. Obama, while anti-regime protesters were bullied and butchered -- as happened again this week on the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. His last minute announcement of unilateral U.S. “sanctions” against a handful of regime kingpins this week is feckless. Sanctions only work when applied to all corporations and banks doing business with despots – not just Americans. But that requires firm, consistent, honest leadership. That’s the terrible truth -- and our enemies know it.

It’s a good thing for Mr. Obama that the weather kept the government closed this week. The “blizzard” let him ignore the hard questions. If you have been praying for snow, you can stop now.

Smear tactics against the Simon Wiesenthal Center

Following Arab "claims" that the Simon Wiesenthal Center's planned Museum of Tolerance in west Jerusalem is supposedly built on a Muslim cemetary, the MSM has launched a smear campaign. First:
(IsraelNN.com) A group of Arabs joined by European human rights activists have joined forces to demand that the United Nations halt the building of a Jewish "Museum of Tolerance" on a plot of land they say is an ancient Muslim cemetery.

This is just the latest in a series of attacks made on the project, which is run by the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, since 2004. Islamic groups and various Arabs have complained that the museum is slated to be built on the Ma'aman Allah (also known as Mamilla) cemetery. They say the burial site contains thousands of graves and dates back hundreds of years. Some gravestones are present today in the area.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center replied to the Arab outcry by saying the museum would be built adjacent to the cemetery, on a plot which is currently a parking lot. The Center said the parking lot, which was built 50 years ago, was not protested at the time of construction.
It's obvious they just don't want one built even near the cemetary. And by the way:
The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem has allowed building over gravesites in the past, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Jewish/Christian cemetaries, to be sure.

Some of the most distasteful MSM attacks have been from the UK Times, The Examiner, Metro Santa Cruz, McClatchy, and another from the Los Angeles Times, which even perpetuates the lie that "palestinians" were expelled, and not a single mention of those Jews who were driven out of Jerusalem's Old City and such places during 1948. At least they allow for a counterpoint made by Marvin Hier about the real location:
Listening to the few vocal opponents of our Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem project -- among them the notorious Sheik Raed Salah, leader of the extremist Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel -- you would never know that the Israeli Supreme Court deliberated for almost three years before unanimously rejecting all their claims and authorizing the Wiesenthal Center to begin construction. Just six weeks ago, Chief Justice Dorit Beinish also rebuked those who re-petitioned the Supreme Court for an "abuse of court proceedings," ordering them to pay professional costs.

Still, our opponents would have you believe that in the name of tolerance, our bulldozers actually have invaded the adjacent Mamilla Cemetery, desecrating ancient Muslim tombstones and historic markers.

They don't want you to know the real facts. The museum is not being built on what can rightfully be called the Mamilla Cemetery, but on a three-acre site in the heart of West Jerusalem that, for more than half a century, served as the city's municipal car park. Each day, hundreds of people of all faiths parked in the three-level underground structure without any protest from Muslim religious or academic leaders or interest groups. Additionally, telephone and electrical cables and sewer lines were laid deep below ground in the early 1960s, again without any protest.

As the Supreme Court noted in its ruling, "for almost 50 years the compound has not been a part of the cemetery, both in the normative sense and in the practical sense, and it was used for various public purposes." It also noted: "During all those years no one raised any claim, on even one occasion, that the planning procedures violated the sanctity of the site, or that they were contrary to the law as a result of the historical and religious uniqueness of the site. . . . For decades this area was not regarded as a cemetery by the general public or by the Muslim community. . . . No one denied this position."

In fact, the entire area of the Mamilla Cemetery had long been regarded by Muslim religious leaders as mundras -- abandoned. A cemetery not in use for 37 years is considered mundras and without sanctity. That explains why in 1946 the most prominent Islamic religious figure of the day, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, presented plans to build a Muslim university on a large portion of the Mamilla Cemetery itself (a rendering of which we presented to the court). Today, the concept of mundras is widely accepted and practiced in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian territories and throughout the Arab world.

Recent critics such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Americans for Peace Now and the Center for Constitutional Rights argue that the Museum of Tolerance should abide by a higher standard than the letter of the law. We do, as the above quote from the court confirms. When we first heard of protests against our plan, in January 2006, our lawyers attempted to meet with Salah but were rebuffed. Once a legal case was filed, the Supreme Court's mediator tried, but fared no better. We offered solutions to build without disturbing the bones -- also rejected. We offered to restore the neglected and virtually abandoned nearby Mamilla Cemetery -- not interested.
And that's just another sign of how this only stems from anti-semitism.

The Jerusalem Post also makes clear the real picture here, as does the Jerusalem Dispatch. Those MSM publications who've lent themselves to the attacks here should retract and apologize for helping cause all the trouble they're going to cause.

The Young Jewish Woman Who Drew A Cartoon Of Mohammed As A Pig And Spent 16 Months In An Israeli Prison For It

From Israelinews.org

"Tatiana Soskin was a resident of Hebron, the Jewish city divided UN-equally between Jews and Arabs. The Jewish community in Hebron consists of 500 Jews of which 350 are children while the Arab population is 80,000. In other words, the Arabs out-number the Jews 160 to one! So much for the myth of Jewish "settlers" taking over Hebron!

Tatiana was a young woman who decided to express some of her frustration and anger at the war of terrorism the Palestinians were waging against her fellow Jews. In June of 1997, she drew several pictures of a pig she called "Mohamed." She attempted to post these drawings on Arab-owned stores in Hebron... not unlike some of the distasteful pictures Arabs posted on Jewish stores and buildings all the time. Unfortunately, Tatiana's budding art career was cut short for she was apprehended by the Israeli authorities and brought to the Jerusalem Police station. Tatiana was arrested and later put on trial. Judge Zvi Seagal presided over this case. The judge compared her drawing to the atrocities committed by the Nazis, and said she had no respect for humanity and human rights.

In the judge's view she was guilty of incitement, racism and perhaps even endangering world peace! He even went so far as to compare her childish "pig poster" to the most evil anti-Semitic forgery ever conceived -- the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion!" And on January 8, 1998, twenty-six year-old Tatiana Soskin was sentenced by the Jerusalem District Court to two years in prison plus a one-year suspended sentence for ATTEMPTING to post drawings of a pig named "Mohamed." She was convicted of committing a racist act, supporting a terrorist organization, attempting to give religious offense and attempted vandalism. Tatiana's appeal to the High Court was heard on March 30, 1998. A verdict from the High Court was given on July 8, 1998, totally rejecting the arguments. Tatiana served more than 16 months in prison FOR DRAWING A CARICATURE. This happened in "the only democracy in the Middle East." Sadly, Arab-Israeli citizens are cut a lot more slack on matters of freedom of press, freedom of speech, freedom of expression AND the freedom to draw insulting pictures! The prosecutors decided to be tougher on her than they were on some Arab terrorists. No "revolving door" justice for this gutsy Jewish chick!

Now flash forward to today. The prestigious Israel Prize for sculpture has been awarded to Yigal Tumarkin has fashioned a pig wearing phylacteries, and on November 4, 1988 told Tel Aviv Magazine that when seeing haredi Jews he can understand the Nazis. He once said he wished he had gunned down Raphael Eitan and Rehavam Ze'evi. He branded then Tel Aviv mayor Shlomo Lahat "Papa Doc" for proposing to relocate Tumarkin's upside-down glass pyramid Holocaust memorial from outside city hall. He published a “retraction” in an op-ed in Hadashot 10 days later, writing that, "The outward strangeness of the Jew and the pretentiousness of the notion that God chose us... caused violent surrounding cultures to clash... with this arrogant minority... The image of the cunning, ambitious scoundrel, lending money at exorbitant interest, turned the bent, hook-nosed bearded Jew into the enemy of civilization... which didn't help belatedly enlightened Jews."

Where is Ambassador Zvi Mazel when we need him?"

If the Dagbladet had published the story of the illustration, it would have been quite relevant and revealing in light of what is now happening in Europe. That is the story. Not whether this illustration offends Muslims. Muslims are offended by everything, that much we get. It's how far we go to try to keep from offending them that is the issue.

The jihad against the United States picked up steam in 2009: over one-third of the attempted and successful jihad attacks on American soil since 9/11 took place in the last year. Muslim Brotherhood organizations have infiltrated our government at the highest levels.

Still, the mainstream media won't tell you about the jihad. Even the conservative media won't tell you about the jihad. It's up to free citizens to stand up now, before it's too late. That's why Pamela Geller and I have created a new organization to stand up against this silence and willful blindness that threatens our existence and renders us defenseless as our freedoms and way of life are eroded away. We are launching the Freedom Defense Initiative, a new activist group, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2010, with a conference entitled Jihad: The Political Third Rail - What They Are Not Telling You.

We're bringing in some of the leading speakers about the jihad threat in the U.S. and around the world. The main speakers are Steve Coughlin and Wafa Sultan. Steve Coughlin is the former Pentagon Islamic law specialist who was fired after pressure from Islamic infiltrators. He is making his first public appearance for us at CPAC, and has startling information about Islamic infiltration in our government. Wafa Sultan stood up for human rights against Sharia on Al-Jazeera in a debate with an Islamic cleric on a famous viral video. She is the author of a blistering indictment of Islam's denial of rights to women and non-Muslims, A God Who Hates.

Other speakers include Simon Deng, a former slave in Sudan, and a leading human rights activist against jihad and Islamic supremacism; Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, who is facing "hate speech" charges in Austria for telling the truth about Islam and the Islamization of Europe; Anders Gravers of the group Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE); and Lt. Colonel Allen West: a war hero who offers a real alternative to Obama's socialism at home and appeasement abroad.

It promises to be an enlightening event, and it's certainly unique given the general media blackout on these issues.

But to hold this event, we need your help.

This conference will be held at the site of CPAC, but it is an independent event, not a CPAC event. Pamela Geller and I are holding this event at our own expense. We are paying the speakers' airfare and hotel bills, we are covering the costs of publicity - we are staging this entire event ourselves. We don't have big donors, we don't have large bankrollers. We are not a slick organization with professional fundraisers making elaborate presentations to wealthy philanthropists. All we have is a determination to get the word out about this, the gravest threat to our freedoms that this country has ever faced.

Last year, 9,000 people came to CPAC. This year it promises to be even bigger. Our event is the only one where the truth will be heard about the jihad threat. Then the videos will go up on the Internet and be a reference source to awaken people to this threat for years to come.

Please stand with us. Please help us get the word out. Please go here and contribute directly to the Freedom Defense Initiative.

It is going to take each one of us pitching in what we can in order to win this fight. It is going to take ordinary Americans who love our country and our way of life to stand up now. We are presenting truths at CPAC on which hang the very future of our nation. Please help us let these crucial voices be heard.

Obama Argued For a "Straightforward Marxist-Leninist Revolution" While in College

From Weasel Zippers:

But, but, but he gives such great speeches about hope and change, there's no way he could be a radical Marxist....

(Newsmax)- Dr. John C. Drew, a grant writing consultant in Laguna Niguel, Calif., tells Newsmax he met Obama in 1980 when Obama was a sophomore at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Drew had just graduated from Occidental and was attending graduate school at Cornell University.

Drew’s then girlfriend, Caroline Boss—now Grauman-Boss—knew Obama because she shared classes with him at Occidental.

During Christmas break, Drew says he was at Grauman-Boss’ home in Palo Alto when Obama came over with Mohammed Hasan Chandoo, his roommate from Pakistan.

“The idea was basically that wealthy people were exploiting others,” Drew says. “That this was the secret of their wealth, that they weren’t paying others enough for their work, and they were using and taking advantage of other people. He was convinced that a revolution would take place, and it would be a good thing.”

Drew concluded that Obama thought of himself as “part of an intelligent, radical vanguard that was leading the way towards this revolution and towards this new society.”

In contrast, “My more pessimistic Marxist perspective indicated this was not a realistic possibility, that we really hadn’t seen a sort of complete revolution take place anywhere in Western Europe, and that this isn’t what had happened in more socialistic Germany or in France,” Drew says. “He was pretty persistent, that I didn’t know what I was talking about.”

Drew’s viewpoint that a revolution was unrealistic “made me very unpopular that evening. It was considered a reactionary and insensitive thing to argue,” says Drew.
