Harry Potter Fans Irate at "Honor Killing" Threat to Actress

Dawn breaks over the Leaky Cauldron -- the premiere Harry Potter fan site has posted the
news that the father and brother of HP movie actress Afshan Azad have been charged with threatening her life. Her brother has been charged with actually assaulting the 22-year-old actress, who plays Padma Patil in the films.

Go to the link and check out the Comments section. After a slow start the discussion has begun to pick up steam, focus, and direction. One fan reports that Afshan's strict Muslim family discovered that she has a Hindu boyfriend. Others have referred to the "honor" killings of Aqsa Parvez in Canada and Noor Almaleki in Arizona. The latest to comment has delivered the first direct boot to the head of Islam:

"This in the name of Allah where women are nothing but things to be disposed of as men see fit. Yeah, that sounds like a kind and caring religion to me -- NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will Harry Potter fans begin to recognize in radical Islam the face of Voldemort and the Death Eaters? Or will the PC/MC indoctrination they have received all their lives corral their natural, spontaneous outrage into the safe confines of "cultural relativism"? Meanwhile, wherever she is, Afshan Azad may not know it, but her very own "Dumbledore's Army" is forming on her behalf.

Revere Rides Again,

Well, its a nice thing to know that they are at least talking about this. The more people who are made aware of the issue of honor killings the better. I only read the first Harry Potter Book and saw the first movie, so I may not got some of the analogies, non the less, I think I know what Voldemort and the Death Eaters are supposed to be, and there is a sort of analogy there between them and the Jihadists, although it may not be the best fictional analogy out there, but maybe, I guess it is for Harry Potter Fans.

For a few years now, I have believed that, eventually, Muslims will overstep, and the Western world will wake up.

Typically, I believe that will happen when we get hit by a major terrorist attack involving WMD's.

However, considering the kind of culture we are, it could be that it will be something seemingly trivial (by macro standards), like a cherished celebrity being killed,

or,

in this case, a celebrity from a cherished story.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass to all of us?

Frankly, I would love it if the Harry Potter fans of the world took over our job. That would be fucking great.

What I like about the fans' reactions so far is that, and I'm assuming these are mostly pretty young fans, tweens and teens, their first impulse is outrage at the undeserved cruel and vicious treatment this girl is getting from her own family. The PC/MC hasn't over-ridden that impulse yet.

Yes it would be great fun to see the HP fans smack down the Muslims over this. It would be even more fun to watch them try to drag Rowling into it. (In the course of the series, Rowling plays what I consider a rather nasty trick by appearing to generate sympathy for a bullied child, then later "justifying" the bullying with some sort of Calvinistic sleight-of-hand. Nice to see the kids have healthier impulses than she had.)
