OUTRAGE -- UN Elects Iran to "Women's Status" Commission

Breaking news from FOX:

EXCLUSIVE: U.N. Elects Iran to Commission on Women's Rights
By Joseph Abrams
- FOXNews.com

NEW YORK — Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged "immodest."

Just days after Iran abandoned a high-profile bid for a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council, it began a covert campaign to claim a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women, which is "dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women," according to its website.

Buried 2,000 words deep in a U.N. press release distributed Wednesday on the filling of "vacancies in subsidiary bodies," was the stark announcement: Iran, along with representatives from 10 other nations, was "elected by acclamation," meaning that no open vote was requested or required by any member states -- including the United States.

The U.S. currently holds one of the 45 seats on the body, though the position is set to expire in 2012.

Hi it is just mind boggling that a country that oppresses women to such an extent can be even considered for a seat.Justice and womens rights have become a joke.Will.

I think it is PERFECT.

Libya and Syria on human rights in the UN

Iran on women's rights.

Its' great.

The UN, begun by FDR to avoid war.. racist, misogynist, powerless in the face of genocide, leaving a state of war whenever they have intervened in one.

Collect the parking fines and send them on their way.

Make the building a brothel.

Officially, that is

Revere Rides Again,

Other than even more extreme Islamic theocracies, lik Saudi Arabia, or the Afghanistan under the Talbian, Iran, is just about the last country that should even be part of a group whose goal is to advance women's rights. It may as well read, U.N Elects Hugo Chavez to the commission on the defense of free markets. Its pretty much on that level. seriously just imagine Hugo Chavez being put in charge of a group whose stated goal is to advance capitalism.

It's like giving a match and lighter fluid to a pyromaniac.

I'm about ready to change my email to onepissedoffwoman.com. What sort of animals are loose in that building?

Years ago someone came up with the idea of a protest made up of thousands of women screaming. Constantly. For hours. 24/7. With re-inforcements. That's what I'd love to see surrounding the UN right now. For a week or so. Rent a couple boats on the river so the whole building is surrounded. See how long it takes to unnerve the buggers.

We might have done in in he 70s, but unfortunately I doubt there are enough women in NYC who give a rat's ass anymore.

Wow.

RRA, not only NYC women, but apparently women all over the world. We all sit by and watch as millions of young girls are married off in arranged marriages, have their genitals cut off, are denied education and other basic human rights, are honor killed and beaten and the world says nothing. In fact, BO goes to Cairo and tells Islam how great they are??? The same man who stood there on inaguration day and reprimanded white America for slavery, denies the slavery that women in Islam live in daily, millions and millions of women, not just 12% of the US population, hundreds of millions of women in Islamic countries all around the world being told how to dress, what to think, whether they can educated themselves, work, use birth control, eat or breathe! I'm trying to stay calm here and not lapse into profanities and ranting, .... but I LOVE the protest idea.

In her book, The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir says that we are complicit in our own enslavement. She is right. She is especially right about women in Islamic countries. At some point, you have to stand up and fight for your rights. I know it's hard when you have no rights and any defiance is met with violence.

At the very least, we can start a mail campaign to the UN? Perhaps we could use all caps to simulate screaming? I'm busy as hell, but I think I'll send a letter out tonight. And since I have Magic Jack, I will definitely call the US member of the commission and as many others as I can. Info below:

Here are the telephone numbers and email addresses of every member of the CSW:

Disseminate the info. Raise hell!

MlaR: Thanks for the info. Not that they'll listen to anything women have to say.

I just love the idea of the Scream Protest as street theater. Maybe we could combine it with an anti-Ahmadinejad demonstration if the Evil Dwarf does come to NY next month. Get enough screamers we can get some amplification, do it in Surround-Sound. I know where there's a great rooftop bar about 3 blocks up, might as well relax and have a few drinks while we're at it.

Cornyn says he at least wants to keep Ahmadhimijerker confined to the area around the UN if he's allowed in at all. Two words: water balloons.

Speaking of Obambi and wimmin, there's a story perculating about his alleged mistress, the one Michelle had exiled to Martinique. Wouldn't it be fun to go all Tiger on him?

RRA, Oh man, you don't know how I've dreamed of protesting that guy's presence. Dream of doing the shimmy in front of him in a cleavage baring top:)

Seriously, I would be there in a heart beat and it's a 9-hour drive for me to NYC. But alas, am caring for my elderly mother so for the last four years I've been anchored. It's very trying. I have no life. If she were in better shape, I'd pack her up and wheel her along. In better days, she'd of been right there with us.

The scream theater is absolutely brilliant. And a round of drinks would be a blast. One fine day!

I don't hold much hope, but as someone else said, I'm so glad to see some senator standing up for rigthousness.

Did you all ever read about I'madickhead's lineage? He's a Jew!!!

Sorry if this already ran here?

Call Me Moishe

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was born Jewish and converted to Islam, according to a report in London’s Daily Telegraph.

The Saturday report cited a photograph from 2008 which showed Ahmadinejad holding up his identity card, bearing his former last name, Sabourjian, a common Jewish name in Iran.

The Telegraph said that the name was “Jewish” for cloth weaver, and that the Iranian president’s family had changed their name when they converted to Islam. “The name derives from “weaver of the Sabour,” the name for the Jewish Tallit shawl in Persia,” the report said.

The report also cited experts as speculating that Ahmadinejad’s anti-Semitic rhetoric may be a kind of overcompensation to conceal his heritage. “Every family that converts into a different religion takes a new identity by condemning their old faith… By making anti-Israeli statements he is trying to shed any suspicions about his Jewish connections,” Ali Nourizadeh, the head of the Centre for Arab and Iranian Studies was quoted as saying.

INDEED!!!

This is an utter farce. It's as if we're in the damned mirror universe!

Hell, why not put the Klan in charge of the civil rights movement during the 60's? It's the same thing!
