Ugh. McCain Speaks Out Against Waterboarding "Torture" (Video) Update: He Voted Against Waterboarding Ban Last Year

From Gateway Pundit:

John McCain was on Greta tonight and declared "waterboarding is torture."
He just erased all of the that Dick Cheney had built up this week against the dangerous Obama Administration national security positions in about 2 minutes.
Once again, just when you think Republicans have something going... In comes John McCain.

He just couldn't wait a day or two. He had to come out and damage the former Republican administration today.

That ought to get him a few invites on the cable shows this weekend.
...Maybe even an invite to the White House.
Thanks John.

UPDATE: Funny, just one year ago McCain reportedly supported the use of harsh interrogation tactics by voting against a bill that banned the CIA from waterboarding and using other torture tactics in their interrogations. McCain later defended his vote. He has often spoken out against waterboarding.

It is a peacetime luxury to indulge in holier-than-our-enemy thinking to the point where we are expected to recoil from the idea of pouring water on the face of a mass murderer to obtain information that will prevent more mass murder. Under ordinary circumstances none of us would choose to nuke a major city in Japan. But with hundreds of thousands of our military already killed and facing even greater losses if an invasion was forced, we were fortunate enough to be led by a grown-up who accepted the reality and chose the course which objectively had the best chance of ending the war and minimizing our losses. With all due respect to McCain's personal experience, he is polishing his own self-righteousness at the cost of some future victims of jihadists who will get to keep their secrets.

Yeah, thanks John.

The next 9/11 level assault on us is going to sort out those who know they deserve to survive from the self-flagellating appeasors much more harshly than did 9/11. To quote from Dan Simmons' "Time Traveler" story:

"At least understand that such decency goes away quickly when you are burying your children and your grandchildren... or watching them suffer in slavery. Ruthlessness deferred against totalitarian aggression on.y makes the later need for ruthlessness more terrible. Thousands of years of history and war should have taught you that. Did you fools learn nothing from living through the charnel house that was the 20th Century?"

Apparently not.

Doesn't want to let Meghan outbeat him in "You TOO can sound like a liberal!"

The republicans lost this issue from the get go. IN 2002Waterboarding is when water is FORCED into your nose and mouth and you CAN drown, aspirate vomit and otherwise be damaged PERMANENTLY. The case always quoted we prosecuted of Yukio Asano (among others) in 1947 included this AMONG OTHER TORTURES AND CRIMES.

We simulate the feeling of waterboarding.

Is that torture? Legally YES. PERIOD.

But that is the problem

So is the P300 test which monitors EEG signals when you get a visual stimulus (painless, obviously) because degrading actions (such as forcing your brain to betray you with involuntary electronic signals also fails the Geneva convention tests.

The people who came up with these means of treating prisoners were all concerned with what the Japanese and Germans did to our men and women in WW2.

What we did was establish POW camps and keep prisoners WITHOUT HEARINGS until the war was over.

Sounds good to me.

If there is no end to this mess with clear surrender (and there won't be), then I guess POWS will be held until the cows come home.

DETERRENCE.

You will just have to make up your mind, mom and dad and sis and bro, and Mrs and your kids will simply never see you again, and wifey will be schtupping the yid spy the crusaders and zionists send out.

We'll send postcards of it.
Oh but that would be degrading.

McCain is simply wrong on this and comparing what those bastards did to him, to what KSM and two other fuckers endured for a MAXIMUM of 2 and a half minutes is a complete farce.

I blame the repubs for not getting out front and gutting both the dems and and the law and withdrawing from conventions whose legalistic view of japanese torture carried to the extreme of the law makes it simpler for those bent on mass murder to incinerate someone having their morning coffee at their office desk while talking to the Mrs about what to pick up on the way home.
