What's Happening In Beirut?

Here's a report from Michael Travis:

I have been anxiously monitoring Al Manar and Al Jazeera television for the last three days. Lebanon is poised to explode once again, courtesy of the Hezbullah and their Iranian puppet-masters.

The Legitimate Lebanese government has closed down the Hezbullah's private communications network, an act that Hizbullah Chief Hassan Nasrallah promptly described as a "declaration of war". So far, the Lebanese government has held fast in the face of a barrage of threats from the Iranian-backed terror organisation. The Whitehouse however, is sending mixed signals.

Lebanon's erstwhile "allies" in Washington are still "hopeful" that Hezbullah can change it's blood-soaked spots and start behaving as a legitimate political party.

The current crisis in Lebanon has the potential to spark another regional war, or, with Western support it may present an opportunity for Lebanon to free itself from foreign (Iranian) domination and the barbarism that Islam has unjustly imposed upon this historically Christian nation.

In 2003 I was fond of asking my arab 'buds' in Oman and Syria 'Where is the 3rd ID?' when it seemed Iraq was 'winning' in their Al Jazeera'd eyes, so now my question is ... WHERE IS THE LEBANESE ARMY?

As long as they do nothing this can have only one outcome. If they are to a-scared, then so is Lebanese leadership.

That leaves but one force with the ability and the local forces to make a difference, but the national will of the Olmert govt is not only lacking but INVISIBLE.

Don't you mean Livni?

Just a few minutes ago, I caught the list of FNC top stories at the top of the hour. No mention whatsoever of Lebanon!

Again, I recommend reading Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. We're living the part about war planes overhead and the news not even reporting on a pending war.

The Lebanese army has laid down arms in some quarters of Lebanon. Aren't the government troops trying to fight back?

Michael,
Lebanon's erstwhile "allies" in Washington are still "hopeful" that Hezbullah can change it's blood-soaked spots and start behaving as a legitimate political party.

What kind of crap is that? Hezbullah is going to change?

Michael says that's what folks in Washington are saying, but I haven't actually seen anyone say that.

That being said, I have little doubt that someone will say it, if Hizballah really does wind up victorious.

"Hizbullah needs to make a choice: be a terrorist organization or be a political party, but quit trying to be both," said White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe. "They need to start playing a constructive role and stop their disruptive activities now." (Reuters)

Is that a world record for us rolling over and taking it up the ass, or what?

Is not Hizballah on the State Dept. terrorist list?

Hizballah? CONSTRUCTIVE ROLE?

Pastorius,
The record is yet to come.
