Islam Teaches Muslims to Respect other Religions

One person has been killed and at least 12 others injured by knife-wielding attackers at three churches in northern Egypt, police have said. The attacks happened in Coptic churches in the city of Alexandria.

Let's take a peek and see what the holy book says about other religions shall we?

Fight against Christians and Jews "until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low." 9:29

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 9:5

I will throw fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then smite the necks and smite of them each finger. 8:12

Attacks on Good Friday?

Good Friday is next week, I believe, for them. It is for the Orthodox churches, and I think the Copts follow that calendar for holy days. Still this doesn't detract from the horror of their attack, or for the fact that the attack on them was during the West's Good Friday. But maybe they are celebrating Good Friday today, or else this was a daily mass? I'm still unsure. The news report I saw said that they were on the Orthodox calendar.

It matters little the attacks and persecution of Copts has been increasing in the last several years. The asylum seekers from these communities has also gone up. There was even a large Coptic community and Church in Indiana when I lived there that we used to visit frequently. Fabulous Church. But they never forget why they are not in their native land, even when they hold their "Taste of Egypt" Festival yearly, which I'm glad they do to remind festival goers of who they are and how they've been oppressed. Check for a Coptic Church in your area. Visiting is a very enlightening experience.
